Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

Sunday lunch, condiments which were advertised on menu did not appear. Had to ask for these. No serving spoons in any of the accompanying veg, again had to ask. Finished plates not cleared for over 30 minutes. The pub was not busy, staff seemed to be very disinterested in any of the customers.

Disappointed ! why were we sat next to the only other guests in an empty restaurant? Music level too loud for conversation. Menu uninspiring and very small portions even for nouvelle cuisine . Pricing for starters excessive and I will not pay £38 for a steak as a local Beef farmer when steak at source has not cost significantly more to warrant that at a restaurant.

Excellent food and service in a lovely local pub. Little bit pricey , but delicious food and perfect for tha special occasion

We had a very good experience! We did have to wait quite a long time to be served & then were asked to leave the table as soon as we’d finished. The restaurant is a little dark for me. A really lovely touch to receive a glass of fizz & some fudge… much appreciated! We will be back!!

The staff exceeded all expectations in terms of service. The ambience of this pub/restaurant is inviting. The portions are large.

We LOVE this place, its incredibly atmospheric and the food is outstanding. Great service although being asked to move a plate, which should have been cleared for the waitress to put food down was not quite up to standard and noisy kids on the next table whilst we were having a romantic date night was pretty annoying but these were trivail things that couldnt detract from our enjoyment of the fantastic food and the lovely staff and atmosphere. A note to those with less thatn perfect eyesight. The wonderful romantic lighting (wouldn't want to change that) makes menu reading difficult so remember your phone for torch light!!
