Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

We had a very good experience! We did have to wait quite a long time to be served & then were asked to leave the table as soon as we’d finished. The restaurant is a little dark for me. A really lovely touch to receive a glass of fizz & some fudge… much appreciated! We will be back!!

The staff exceeded all expectations in terms of service. The ambience of this pub/restaurant is inviting. The portions are large.

We LOVE this place, its incredibly atmospheric and the food is outstanding. Great service although being asked to move a plate, which should have been cleared for the waitress to put food down was not quite up to standard and noisy kids on the next table whilst we were having a romantic date night was pretty annoying but these were trivail things that couldnt detract from our enjoyment of the fantastic food and the lovely staff and atmosphere. A note to those with less thatn perfect eyesight. The wonderful romantic lighting (wouldn't want to change that) makes menu reading difficult so remember your phone for torch light!!

Hopefully a constructive criticism.Unfortunately not an award winning pub/ restaurant anymore as claimed on the website and having had the experience a few years back when it was excellent. The pre starters were amazing and very very delicious, but what followed to me it was a total disaster. For the starter had " Scallops, salt bake celeriac, apple and hazelnuts. For £15.00 you only get 2 scallops, couldn't really see any hazelnuts. But the worst was the main course which was " Catch of the day, fondant potato, fennel braised carrots, carrot puree , shellfish bisque, tarragon ". For £28.00 I got a piece of fish the size of half of my palm, carrots were barely cooked, potato fondant was not really a fondant, the fennel was okish, and the bisque sauce was ok. For a restaurant in the proximity of the seaside to charge that price for that size of a fish I think it's a joke, for that price you get a whole fish in London or any other side of the country with all the trimmings included, so I would say shame on them. On the other hand,the lady that served us was really kind, I believe her name was Kate, and waived off the main course for me as I have eaten just the fish and a bit of the fennel, the most edible bits . It might have been that the chef was quite bored as we were there first thing as they opened the restaurant for dinner, and through the serving gap could see he was busy on his phone. Anyway, hopefully he will pay more attention to what he is serving and on another note people won't get ripped off with the food and portions they are serving for the prices they are charging. Just wish I would have taken some pictures of the food that was served.

Excellent food! Lamb dish was amazing. So was catch of the day and dessert of spiced pineapple. Great dining experience! Wish there was more parking space..

The Rising Sun really does have the best Sunday roast dinner. It deserves all the accolades it has received. We've been here 3 times over several years and it has always been superb. The food is cooked to perfection - melt in the mouth meat, crispy roasties. heaps of other veg with cheese sauce on the side - it's not just for cauliflower here! All roasts get a Yorkshire pudding and there is always plenty of gravy. Fabulous service from all the waiting staff. If we're coming to Truro or nearby Iwe'll always make sure we're here for a Sunday and make a booking for The Rising Sun well in advance.

Fabulous Sunday lunch, friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Really nice atmosphere and music. Highly recommend and will definitely return.
