Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

Sunday lunch was superb, roast lamb & plenty of vegetables & Cauliflower cheese as extra, but so well worth it . Just beautiful.

The best meal I've ever had in my life. It was perfectly done and had me eating vegetables I previously wouldn't have ever tried. Truly fantastic and the service was excellent

Food was delicious, between us we had the beef, the pork and the vegetarian wellington. Service was quick but not rushed, and the waitresses were very attentive and knowledgeable. Would 100% return.

Having had superb Sunday lunches there before I was a tad disappointed this time. Whilst the vegetables were plentiful and delicious the potatoes were undercooked and the Yorkshire was overcooked to the extent it was crisp and inedible. The gravy was applied in what seemed a slapdash manner and to get some sauces (apple for pork , horseradish for beef) seemed like a Herculean task. The Rising Sun has always been my go to pub in Truro for the best food but this time the mantle has slipped.

The food was very tasty and excellent flavours. The service was good but did take a while to tell us my choice was not available. Saying that they did give a replacement starter for free. The wine choice was limited and on the higher end of cost.

Probably the best Sunday lunch in Truro. Chefs vegetables are great for veggies.

I like the pub, and it’s always been outstanding. But although it was a very quiet night , the service was appalling and very slow. We will definitely go again - sometime.

Outstanding food in a lovely pub atmosphere. Able to accommodate gluten free dietary requirements without any issue.

Very good food and good service. Highlights were: The bread prior to starters, haddock risotto (as good as we have ever tasted even when compared to various crab risottos - I would have liked the recipe), chicken supreme and dauphinoise potatoes. Beware, portions are large so no chance for us having a dessert. Prices are higher than most other eateries in Truro but the large portion size means they are fairly good value. Probably next time we would get two starters each and have a dessert. We ordered: Ham Hock terrine Haddock risotto Rib Eye with Dauphinoise Chicken supreme No wait for food and no feeling at any time of being rushed. Would eat here again.
