Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

I like the pub, and it’s always been outstanding. But although it was a very quiet night , the service was appalling and very slow. We will definitely go again - sometime.

Outstanding food in a lovely pub atmosphere. Able to accommodate gluten free dietary requirements without any issue.

Very good food and good service. Highlights were: The bread prior to starters, haddock risotto (as good as we have ever tasted even when compared to various crab risottos - I would have liked the recipe), chicken supreme and dauphinoise potatoes. Beware, portions are large so no chance for us having a dessert. Prices are higher than most other eateries in Truro but the large portion size means they are fairly good value. Probably next time we would get two starters each and have a dessert. We ordered: Ham Hock terrine Haddock risotto Rib Eye with Dauphinoise Chicken supreme No wait for food and no feeling at any time of being rushed. Would eat here again.

Quality and portion sizes did not represent the high prices! The langoustine starter was very minimal, the sauce was light and tasty but unable to enjoy fully as a spoon was needed. The risotto starter was chalky and far too al dente. The Beef Loin was full of flavour but a very small portion. The Chicken Fricassee was moist and enjoyable to eat. We have eaten there several times previously and enjoyed really good food. We were a bit disappointed as celebrating an anniversary on this visit. We will go back again but maybe leave it for a while.

We were here on holiday and enjoyed a great meal! The Fish was perfectly prepared - s I loved the bed of veggies. The lamb was amazing as well as the pork! All of us shared the red cabbage and mashed apples with the other vegetables. We will be back and highly recommend this restaurant as a place not to be missed!

Could not fault the food at all, best Sunday lunch that we’ve had for a very long time and we’ve tried a few. Their approach to service is novel, and works for the location, thorough but never rushed. Will definitely return for more.

Probably the best Sunday roast I have had. Meat was perfect as was the vegetable selection and cauliflower cheese sauce.
