Set on Mitchell Hill, a medieval route from the city of Truro to the East, in a quiet, historical quarter, The Rising Sun is the hub of the local community and a destination for visitors to the county. Surrounded by charming lanes with views to the cathedral, diverse historical buildings, an abundance of trees and greenery.
Seven years ago Katie & Tom Hannon stepped into a very dark and sad shell of a pub. An overwhelming amount of work paled into insignificance against the excitement at what they thought could be created in this out of the way building with a very long and interesting history. A lot of hard labour ensued to create their vision of showcasing the best qualities of a modern pub; seamlessly combining carefully sourced, sophisticated yet familiar food and drink in a welcoming authentic pub environment. Elegant, delicious food alongside fantastic local beers, unusual wines and a great array of craft spirits all wrapped up in a relaxed atmosphere.

The Rising Sun really does have the best Sunday roast dinner. It deserves all the accolades it has received. We've been here 3 times over several years and it has always been superb. The food is cooked to perfection - melt in the mouth meat, crispy roasties. heaps of other veg with cheese sauce on the side - it's not just for cauliflower here! All roasts get a Yorkshire pudding and there is always plenty of gravy. Fabulous service from all the waiting staff. If we're coming to Truro or nearby Iwe'll always make sure we're here for a Sunday and make a booking for The Rising Sun well in advance.

Fabulous Sunday lunch, friendly staff, nothing too much trouble. Really nice atmosphere and music. Highly recommend and will definitely return.

Overall the food was excellent. Unfortunately, despite this, tge meal was completely spoilt by the erratic, chaotic and slow service with repeated omissions and delays, including forgetting a main dish. Also, the menu was very overpriced.

I have previously rated the Rising Sun as one of the best pub restaurants in the County. But my last visit was let down by restaurant staff who were clueless. The food was good, but the two servers had very little experience and absolutely no common sense about how to serve in a good restaurant. In future I’ll phone to book and check they have staff who know what they are doing. I jest not, the service at Wetherspoons is better than we had. For the record the food was still as good. Alternatively bring your own drinks, water and bread, then pick your own table to ensure you are not put next to a geeky man knitting and staring at us! The restaurant was not busy.

Service was good throughout the evening of Sunday 25th August 2024, however, I have previously enjoyed a much better dining experience at The Rising Sun Inn in Truro. Unfortunately, during this visit the beef was definitely on the tough side, the horseradish sauce was unusually thin and the lemon posset dessert was ridiculously over-rich and over-sweet.

We went to the Rising Sun for our anniversary meal. We were treated to a glass of Prosecco at our table. Fabulous service throughout. The meal was superb. As we left we were given a little box of homemade treats. We were delighted and couldn’t have had a nicer evening.

Lovely atmosphere and the Sunday lunch was amazing especially the cauliflower cheese. The service though is not great 3 staff members was not enough for a busy Sunday lunch and so just waiting to order and pay was a long task ! It was worth the wait but a simple change on the staffing front is definitely required to make this place perfect.

The ambience was very nice; we were expecting more of a pub-type atmosphere and it was much nicer. However, we were pretty shocked by the prices and the lack of lower-priced fare such as burgers or sandwiches. For £28, we got the catch of the day that was a very small portion of fish for that price. While it was delicious, the monk fish was slight overcooked. The rolls and chicken fat butter and sauce that came before our mains were excellent. Wine was also pricey with very few choices under £26. We would likely give it another chance because it is a lovely atmosphere, but knowing it’s more of a special occasion very expensive dinner as opposed to a casual evening out.
