Please note that for Afternoon Tea bookings, dietary requests (e.g. vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, children's) must be pre-ordered on booking. We cannot guarantee availability of dietary-specific Afternoon Teas on the day of your visit, if not ordered in advance. CANCELLATION POLICY Our booking system securely stores card details at the time of reservation; however, no deposit will be taken. We request that any cancellation be made no less than 24 hours prior to your booking date. In the event of a cancellation within this time frame, or following a no show, we will charge £20 per person.

Been several times for afternoon tea. We always stay at the Grand when in York. The afternoon tea is a good product with plenty of selection in what is a crowded market in York. The service was friendly and efficient. We didn't feel rushed. Excellent vegetarian/vegan choices. Will return.

We visited The Grand for the first time after seeing great reviews online. We were seated promptly without any waiting and were given a full explanation of what was available and the options. Our waiter asked again if everything had been explained which was great. I have allergies and don't like many sauces, so I had contacted the restaurant beforehand to request some sandwiches more to my liking. This request was catered for without any issue at all. My husband had everything that was on the normal afternoon tea. You get a really good selection of savory options, I can't call them sandwiches as they were more than that and created in a different way. There was salmon, ham, egg and mushroom. All created in a different unique way. My husband said they were all amazing and delicious. Although I had opted to just have cheese and ham, these were also delicious. You get two scones each, one plain and one with sultanas. These came with strawberry jam and clotted cream. The scones were so light and fluffy, I managed to eat them both which is a first as I would normally only be able to manage one. They were better than the ones I have had at The Ritz and The Dorchester in London, which is saying something as I really love those two restaurants. You were given four small cakes each. Each was very different and light and tasted lovely. You were allowed to have unlimited drinks. I had a strawberry and mango tea and a couple of lattes and my husband had the filter coffee. All very good. The service was also excellent. You were checked on regularly to see if you needed any extra drinks. We were also given extra jam and cream when requested. The only very minor observation was it would have been nice to have a cake fork and tongs to take the small cakes off the stand instead of using fingers. Also the teapot and cup and saucer from my first drink was not taken away after it was finished with. Very minor points and none of which would prevent us from visiting again

It was a very nice afternoon tea for very good value considering the location especially when you look at other afternoon tea locations around York. The food was very nice and slightly more interesting than the traditional afternoon tea which we liked.

The afternoon tea itself was great but I was charged twice for it. I paid for the tea at the restaurant right after I finished and even gave a tip. Later that day, my other card was also charged for the tea (sans the tip), and this was the card I had booked the tea with but did not use at the restaurant. I have submitted an enquiry and have yet to receive a reply back. I'm puzzled as to why they would charge my booking when I would pay after the experience anyways.

A lovely restaurant , with great food and super service. The team were very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed it so much we ate there on 2 nights.

We arrived at the Rise for our 10 year Anniversary only to be greeted by lovely staff and an aanniversary card on our table. Food and service was absolutely amazing. Our waiter Rayne was so polite,friendly also when we asked about our food suggestions Rayne gave great advice and we were very happy with the food choice thanks to Rayne, he is a great member of staff.

What a perfect treat! Myself and my friend attended for her 60th birthday treat (I’m vegan and she isn’t) and we both had an equally delicious array of things to eat with unlimited amounts of hot drinks. We also went for the champagne which had a peachy taste and not being a lover of champagne I could have had the bottle!! The atmosphere was serene. It was very quiet with only one other couple when we arrived and by the time we left it was beaming with multiple others indulging in their goodies. The waiting staff were wonderful and the chap assigned to us (called Dan) was an absolute pleasure despite having only worked there 2 weeks!! He needs a pat on the back for sure! We’ll definitely return. It felt decadent and so indulgent it really was a special day with a special friend and although it cost £105 in total for the 2 champagne teas including a tip (they add on 12% to the bill) it was well worth it!
