Superb setting with many hints of times gone by. Fantastic menu that lived up to expectations. Attentive staff - and great cocktails too!

Food was nice as were the staff - need better knifes to cut meat with roast. Dog friendly so lots of dogs barking and eating of cutlery which wouldn’t make me want to go back

I was surprised how expensive it has got I know things have increased but putting things up by 33% is ridiculous, unfortunately because of that we probably won't come back now , especially as our beef was mainly fat and we couldn't even cut it with a knife, this was a treat for my cousins 50th who'd never been and he won't go again either. I've never seen the place so quiet but obviously that is the pricing. We used to have to book so far in advance. Such a shame Sunday dinner used to be amazing and the ambience in the refuge we all loved especially with the jazz dj or band . You've just lost 6 customers and unfortunately I'm guessing a lot more as used to always recommend this restaurant

We came to The Refuge for a post graduation dinner. The ambience and atmosphere was lovely, the serving staff were extremely welcoming and polite, and there was even a sign congratulating graduates in the foyer. The dining room and food was lovely, the portion sizes were just right. The drinks were also perfect from the bar, and the bar staff were very friendly and accommodating.

The girl serving us started off well by taking the orders and more or less disappeared until it was time to get paid. The table was not cleared properly. We weren't asked if we needed anything more, not even a bottle of water. When we told the girl that we wanted to get the cheque, and as the girl started to clear the table, about 30 minutes after we had finished the food, she asked us if we wanted any dessert. We wanted to split the bill (we were two of us) and she was asking us to do the maths so she could tap the digits for us to pay. She couldn't be bothered to pull out a phone and do it herself. A 10% service charge was added and it seemed like they didn't really care about us. Very disappointed with the service. The food was good. Although the steaks were not as hot as it should've been when we got them. Again, when the price is so high, we expect a certain standard. An overall decent experience because of the ambience. But the service could be much better.

Really great service and the food was excellent. The little plates that we could all share and the desserts were delicious.
