Our go to brunch spot. Today two employees apparently called out, so they were super short staffed and the wait bordered on 45 minutes. Luckily, we had a reservation so we didn’t wait as long as we anticipated. Staff hustled to try to seat, serve and clear tables. As usual, food was great. Honestly, this is such a recurring theme across restaurants in Charleston that it has become part of dining out. Thank Covid for ruining work ethic and a sense of responsibility. No one wants to work anymore and local restaurants can’t hire enough staff and are closing at record rates. Remember to tip your wait staff well as they are doing the work of two or more employees-and actually earn an honest days pay.

The food was phenomenal and the service was awesome. My water glass never sat empty. Really impressed!

It was our first time and it was fabulous! I had the steamed lobster with blue cheese mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus sides. It was so delicious! My husband had the fried fish with coleslaw and fries. He said it was fantastic! The restaurant is small, but very pretty. We will definitely be back!

The food is AMAZING. Best she crab soup we've ever had. Crab cakes are incredible, Maryland style. All sides/veggies are great and flavorful.

Disappointing Experience at The Refuge We visited The Refuge with high expectations, particularly looking forward to a dish featured on their online menu, only to find it was not available when we arrived. The menu did not match what was shown online, which was disappointing as we specifically chose the restaurant for that dish. Adding to the frustration, there was a saxophone player in the bar area, and the music was so loud that it was difficult for our party to hear each other, as well as tables around us, who were also commenting on the noise level. The dining room itself is nice, but very open and echoey, which made the situation worse. We considered leaving to dine at a neighboring restaurant we've enjoyed many times, but one of our party insisted on giving the food a try. While the food was decent, there wasn't a lot of variety on the Sunday brunch menu. The saving grace of the meal was the delicious key lime pie. Overall, it wasn’t the experience we were hoping for, and I’d recommend checking the current menu and being prepared for a loud atmosphere.

Drinks and appetizer arrived quickly. Then an hour later with no returns to the table for an hour for entrée orders I had to seek out the server for the bill and take the bill to the server station myself to pay and leave.

Food and service were disappointing. Mussels not cleaned well. Chicken tortellini not good. The salmon was good, but the risotto was not cooked enough. Also, very expensive for not great food.

We visit The Refuge every year when we are in the area and it's always amazing. This year was no exception. We went for steak night this time. The server and the food were both amazing.
