The Reef is a gathering spot that captures the heart of the seadog in all of us. It feels like home port in all the right ways, and acknowledges the wanderlust and adventurous spirit in every sailors soul. Situated dockside in Newport Harbor, The Reef is a waterfront restaurant serving international cuisine inspired by the travels of sailors to ports around the world, with a drink selection to suit every taste. First time at The Reef. Had a waiter in training who was absolutely fabulous. Nice menu options to please everyone. Portion size was perfect for our lunch. Price comparable to other downtown restaurants. Only disappointment was the actual chairs they had at the tables -too low, broken webbing and very uncomfortable.

Our waiter was super distracted which isn’t the norm and also the bathroom was absolutely filthy. I’m not sure if they were understaffed because it’s Labor Day but it seemed like a one off.

Rarely need write a review. Have been here several times in past including their excellent igloo dining. Saturday mid afternoon had live good music playing. Had a Reservation, told we would be indoors and not in the outside region. They said view was inside also. If not in the first four tables, then they should not state there is a view. Food and drinks were excellent. The server was the worse in my many years of dining. First - waited on three tables all sat after we did. Second - he asked us for bottle still or carbonated. I replied tap water was fine. He still bought a bottle of water, which we declined to have him open and returned the bottle. He still left this $8 charge on the bill, which we pointed out. Third - He appeared to pull this water deal on all local tables he served. The other server sections were pouring tap water and refilling. We did not see him do this to any of the local tables. Fourth - the gentleman next to us was asking about his drink and was told they were making the drink. The gentleman then pointed out that his drink was on the bar waiting, which was easily visible from our inside table. Enjoyed this place, just had a really terrible server.

Great ambiance and views. We dinned outdoors and it was great, just perfect. Loved the live music, volume level was just right. The food was very tasty and the drinks as well. Staff was very friendly and served us well.

The property is incredible, we opted to dine indoors because it was a little chilly but with the doors and windows all open to the waterfront we had the same experience as dining outdoors. Great menu and food, fun specialty drinks, great dessert and exceptional staff. Our server was one of two twins working at the restaurant. We enjoyed speaking to her and wish her and her sister all the best in their educational endeavors. It was a beautiful way to end a great girls' trip - we would highly recommend The Reef and we hope to visit Newport again next year and plan to be repeat customers.

My daughter and I enjoyed afternoon drinks out at the bar. Some nice live acoustic guitar music really made the experience lovely.

We had a lovely dinner outside with live music. We enjoyed the steamers, clam chowder, crispy tuna appetizer and a warm buttered lobster roll (which my husband said was the best he ever had!)
