**To purchase tickets, reserve one of our experiences, please see the options listed below.** Established in 1998 by Susan and her husband Stoney Lamar, The Purple Onion was conceived as a 'third place' in Saluda, a neutral spot for friends and family to enjoy great food, engaging conversation, and live music. This vision flourished with a dedicated staff and supportive community. In 2020 the legacy was passed to Chambli Stuber and Emily Lamar, who continue to honor its tradition and role in the community, celebrating over two decades of service. Situated in historic Saluda, The Purple Onion boasts outdoor dining and live music on Thursday and Saturday nights. The Purple Onion features a variety of ethnically inspired dishes with an emphasis on the Mediterranean’s simple and healthy cuisine. We offer a selection of pizzas, pastas, seafood, vegetarian and meat dishes. Specialties include locally sourced trout and organic produce, along with antibiotic and hormone-free meats and poultry.

A contemporary folk group that attempts to harness traditional sounds from around the world. Life Like Water is the creation of multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter, David Matters. A communal effort to celebrate the human experience. The group takes its name from a Lao Tzu quote in the Tao Te Ching. One of the poems says, “Life should be lived like water, for water benefits all things and goes against none of them.” With a focus on hypnotic rhythms, elegant vocal harmonies, and melodies that contain flavors of Africa, Ireland, and the Middle East, the music of this eclectic group is sure to uplift and inspire. Life Like Water brings all of the catchy familiarity of modern folk music with a deep rooted Appalachian authenticity.

We had brunch at the Purple Onion yesterday, on our anniversary weekend. The waitstaff couldn't have been kinder or more solicitous. We shared a nice appetizer of Southern caviar (a/k/a pimiento cheese), which was accompanied by very tasty sweet pickles. My wife's half BLT sandwich with small Greek salad was scrumptious, and the quinoa tabouli was exactly what I had hoped for. We continued enjoying the meal with a take-home dessert of tiramisu -- light and not too sweet, the perfect treat after a light meal. We will be back!

Saluda is such a nice little town and the Purple Onion is our “go-to” restaurant. If it’s a nice day, sit outside. Not too close to the street and lovely side flower garden.

Unfortunately we were disappointed that we had to pay a cover charge for the band that didn’t play until after we had finished eating. And our table was needed. Wasted $20 😞

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm sorry to hear your reservation and music didn't run smoothly. Generally, we recommend guests reserve their table only an hour, at most, prior to the band beginning. This way, you'll hopefully still be dining as the show starts. We do except reservations up until the time the music begins to help with that timing. Still, I'm sorry we weren't able to accommodate your meal and time it with the music. Thank you for giving us your feedback on the oversight. I hope you will try us again and come support live music.

It was our first time at the Purple Onion and we will definitely be back! The food was great (the peanut butter chocolate vegan cake was the highlight), and the music was amazing! Look forward to going again soon!
