Lovely food and very polite staff, only downside was children's menu was not given when sat down so child with us had a large portion rather than child size.

Very small portions for the price. About 25 peas on my plate and no onions rings . Hade the steak it was cooked well. Partner had pie. Very small portion of gravy, had to ask for more

Lovely pub in a nice setting. Service is exemplary and the staff are really friendly, the food is delicious but could do with slightly larger portions, the Pork portion in the roast was significantly larger at our last visit in January although it was very tasty. Would also recommend a change to the custard policy, deserts come with a small pot of custard, when asking for more custard was told we would be charged for another pot. Overall a good meal for our second visit and would recommend this to others.

I was very impressed with the food at The Poacher Inn pub. It was fresh and cooked beautifully. The menu has a good choice and is reasonably priced. Our waiter was very polite and I look forward to eating at the pub again soon.

A truly awful Sunday Lunch experience. Having booked, arrived promptly and despite the place being practically empty, were promptly ignored for fully 5 minutes. Taken to table. Drinks arranged, served quickly and all seemed well. Asked to order, regrettably, nothing any of the 6 of us wanted from starters was available. "Our indulgent Menu" OK, 8 starters, (now 4) on the menu gave us flexibility. (BTW NOT the Menu on the website.) French Onion soup with Sourdough bread and Mushrooms with Stilton and?? on Sourdough. "Making every dish an occasion" My Sourdough under the Mushrooms shattered when touched by knife, all the bread including with the soup, went back untouched as it was brick hard. Incidentally we had waited over 30 mins for the starters to arrive. Mains were a mixed bunch but all roasts except for one F&C. They make much of their Sunday Pub Roasts and they are certainly up there as amongst the most expensive around. We waited for over an hour AFTER our starters were eventually cleared away. Beef was acceptable, the Potatoes, Cabbage and Parsnip were fine, the Yorkshires were functional, however the one Pork was described as hard and dry. Actually everything would have been dry had it not been served drowned in thick gravy. The F&C were described as "nothing special". Portions were NOT generous. We were offered free drinks to compensate for the wait, with several drivers that was of limited appeal so passed on that one. Complimentary Deserts were mentioned once, but that was not followed up on and as it was 2 and a half hours since we arrived the consensus was that we had best continue our celebration, for that is what it was, elsewhere. Maître D said he welcomed feedback so they could improve things. He got feedback. On being presented the bill it included 10% service charge!!! That facility was declined.
