Staff were lovely, friendly and efficient. Food was good - I had trout with king prawns although for me there were a shade too many saute potatoes but that is purely personal.

Another enjoyable evening and an excellent meal at the Plough this evening. We took friends who haven’t been to the Plough previously - they too were impressed with the quality of the food. Good service. Thank you

The occasion was a lunch stop as part of a visit to a family grave near Bristol from our home in North Devon. For us, being able to have our stop at The Plough where there is adequate parking and we know the food and service are good, and the prices reasonable, helps us to remove much of the stress involved with our journey. Our visit on 21st September 2024 met these criteria perfectly - thank you.

Great roast lunch, lovely pork crackling, and the veg Wellington was delicious too. (if you are not a fan of chilli flakes you can ask for the plain apple sauce)

We had 4 Sunday's lunches / roasts (2 of is had the beef, 1 chicken and 1 pork) and everyone enjoyed their food. Very good quality meat, lovely roast and potatoes and vegetables. Very nice Yorkshire puddings and the gravy was delicious. Very reasonable price for the quality and quantity. Nice spacious and bright dining room, very pleasant atmosphere and very good efficient service. We will definitely go back!

The salt and chilli calamari was overly salty and the membrane had not been removed making it difficult to cut and to chew. The accompanying miso mayonnaise was way too thick. Lamb rump was supposed to arrive with new potatoes but turned up with overcooked roasts. When I asked for the new potatoes my plate was Brought back with ice cold potatoes straight from the fridge. When I complained again I was told the chef had made a mistake and thought he should serve potato salad, which made no sense as there was no dressing on them. They eventually served hot new potatoes by heating up (and browning) the ones from my plate. The asparagus was charred and severely undercooked, as were the green beans. The garden peas didn't even get onto the plate. My wife's chicken and ham hock pie came with an anaemic crust which was rock hard. There was little filling and what there was was very salty and surrounded in what can only be called a gloomy white substance - it was certainly not sauce. The separate gravy/sauce served in a mini pan was skinned, dark brown and so thick it could not be poured. The accompanying mash potato was covered with a skin - it had clearly been made some considerable time earlier and either reheated or kept under a hot lamp. The buttered green vegetables comprised undercooked cabbage and green beans. The waiting staff were very apologetic and comp'd my lamb rump and gave us free coffee. It was a nice gesture but we would have preferred to have had a good meal and pay for it. Other customers also left all their mashed potatoes. For a gastro pub, the food was sadly very lacking. It certainly did not live up to the reviews we had read. Maybe it was the chef's night off...
