The Plough is a cosy country pub, just outside Rye, with a beer garden offering picturesque views of the Brede valley. Our food offer is pub classics made incredibly as well as creative cooking, whilst being ingredient led. We primarily use British produce and work with local suppliers to ensure we always source the very best ingredients we can get our hands on. Inside we have a warm atmosphere with log fires and friendly service.

Brilliant food, ambience and service at The Plough. Jake is always a wonderful host. The lamb pie is incredible! Next time we’ll stay for dessert

Excellent service, so welcoming, foreseeing our needs before we even thought of them. Considerate of children and our dog too. There was a good selection of games available. I had a lovely gluten free meal after a quick browse of the allergy menu and the chef came up with something delicious. The candlelight in the evening created atmosphere and could hear lots of locals as regulars as well as a few holidaymakers. We will be back, we do need to finish our monopoly game!

We searched for somewhere to eat on open table and booked the plough based on being able to get a Sunday roast amongst other choices, overall was really good. The food was so tasty probably one of the best roasts I’ve had in a long time aren’t local as we’re away for a weekend and had no idea what it would be like just went off the reviews and stars. The only down side was sitting there for quite a while before our orders were taken and a booking that arrived after us having their order taken before us and their meal therefore arriving first bit that is perhaps not picking. The starters were really tasty as well. We wouldn’t definitely return and highly recommend.

Good service but food standard not good. We ordered two ribeye steaks £29 each looked very nice on the plate but the meat was full of tough tendon and not very tender at all. Poor quality meat for the top price on the menu. The staff were apologetic and gave us a free coffee but I would rather had a good meal.

We had an excellent meal. Our main course was an onion bhaji in a Madras sauce with a runny soft boiled egg in the middle of it accompanied by crispy shreds of potato. A really unusual dish but very delicious. The food and service was faultless. Only very minor gripe was it is quite expensive for lunch if you can't eat off the set menu, as the set menu is pretty limited. Can't wait to go back.

Absolutely beautiful evening, from start to finish. Lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk in & greeted with smiles. Modern but still got that old pub feel, which is exactly what I like. We were seated and served a drink within minutes of being there ( again, exactly what I like ) My partner & I both said, it’s so rare to not ever complain about anything. The starters, mains, sweets & drinks, were all perfection. Stand out for me was the skate wing main. Absolutely unreal. Never had greens that were so nice either. Would highly recommend & we’ll definitely be back soon. Also - Shout out to the chef, Lloyd. Bringing out everybody’s desserts & talking to them about the menu & what he’s doing there. Really nice touch that

Everything was great except my meal which I would definitely have sent back but I did not want to spoil our evening as it was my partner’s birthday I ordered the onion bhagi scotch egg with Bombay potatoes as I’m a vegetarian. It really was not good….specifically the scotch egg part which was like a poached egg inside batter I would never have ordered it if the menu had stated that the egg was soft and runny as I don’t do soft, runny eggs but normally scotch eggs are hard boiled I don’t think I’ll go again
