Arrived 10 minutes before our booking to be told the chef hadn’t turned up so we wouldn’t be served.was directed in to town to find somewhere else to eat.overall very disappointed!!!

Staff very friendly and the service was good. Nice surroundings. Food tasty but small portion of lasagne. Restaurant was cold. Had to sit with my jacket on.

Absolutely awful. Stater and main served together. Hot Stater cold as was peas on main course, chips not much better. Slack service and too cold to eat comfortably. Worst pub meal for a very long time. All other pubs / restaurants tried in Alnwick good to excellent.

A last minute decision to dine and booked in without any problems. As this review's star rating reflects we had a good meal, courteously served and relatively quick - albeit the waiting staff delivered another table's dinner to us. The exchange was done with good humour. However, we chose to dine here on the basis that the website advertised a menu offer which, on arrival, we were told was out of date as it was now under new ownership - the menu was unchanged. Slightly irritating although we would go back if in the area (live 200 miles away).

Maybe we hit on a bad day but the staff were obviously overworked and stressed, although polite to us. There were a lot of complaints about service and the food was not great for the money. If it was cheap pub prices I’d have been happy but the value wasn’t brilliant for the price. It needs someone to take charge and get more staff in to avoid some of the issues. People forgotten, not clear had to order at bar and ran out of food and some of the wine. Not great for a pub! I felt for the staff but would honestly not recommended based on my experience.

Food was not great. Over processed frozen deep fried food - below average. Staff were nice, but overworked. Bar area needs an overhaul. Dirty plates were piled on tables - it all needed a good clean.

Pastry on steak & ale pie was brick hard. When finished our main course we were not offered a dessert menu or even a coffee. Staff appeared uninterested

Service was very slow and disorganised. Appeared to only be two front of house managing tables and bar- both on verge of tears with being overwhelmed . Food came after 40 mins with no cutlery, condiments or napkins. Two of us ordered a pie, both were absolutely rock solid. The chicken burger and chicken schnitzel were uninspired but at least edible.

Lovely building and very nicely set out. Staff very friendly and dog friendly which was great as we’d taken both our dogs with us. The majority of people were diners who’d come to eaten rather than drinkers only. The pub was very lovely, plenty of space and nicely decorated. Food was nice, and all 4 of us cleared our plates. Prices were average and in keeping with what we ate, so can’t complain we definitely enjoyed what we ordered. We were quite surprised for a Saturday night how quiet it was, this the reason we booked a table online. Its location is right in the centre and is surrounded by other bars, so expected it being very busy. Personally I liked it not been rammed, specially when I’d got 2 teenagers and 2 dogs in tow, but for such a nice place I thought they’d be queues. Overall a nice pub meal, and great value for money.

The plough was changing owners in 3 days so it was a very restricted menu not dining food as we have had before. .even though there was a reduced charge. Disappointing as it was a special occasion. They should not have accepted the booking or we should have been warned before hand
