The Pig and Butcher opened its doors in 2012 and has become a bit of an Islington institution. A laid back country style pub with a stunning private dining room and honest cooking showcasing the best farms in the UK.

In the bar we serve craft beers, wine from family-owned vineyards only, aperitif cocktails and a selection of local hand pulled ales.

We have recently completed our beautiful private dining room. With a wood burning stove and Aga oven, it’s our own farmhouse kitchen in the heart of Islington. There is no charge for the room however there is a minimum spend. It is available for either lunch or dinner and will seat 16-24 guests comfortably. For availability and minimum spend details drop us an email at crackling@thepigandbutcher.co.uk. We offer our feasting menu – all dishes are served on vintage platters ‘farmhouse style’ for the table to share. It is quite meaty, but don’t despair, Vegetarian and Pescatarian guests will be catered for by the daily changing a la carte menu.

Superlative roast - pork and lamb fantastic and accompaniments perfectly cooked. Starters (crab gratin and chicken liver parfait) also very good, and wine too. Lovely vibe all round.

The staff were outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal . They always had my drink filled and food came quickly and was outstanding. Only drawback is it’s a loud environment not anyones fault . We had an awesome time❤️

Food was exceptional. My biggest complaint was that it was loud inside but we are an older couple and really don’t care for loudness

I have a few points from the visit. There was no soap in the male toilets and no soap or hand drying (the hand dryer was broke) provisions in the ladies. The toilets themselves were in a dire state and the lack of essentials didn't give me confidence that basic due diligence was being followed. I do hope that the team were provided with the essentials to follow basic hygiene standards. The second point is that the real ale being served was far too warm. It also had a stale after taste which leads me to believe that the cellar or the cooling system is not up to scratch and that the vessel for cleaning the lines had stagnant water in it. This is only an assumption but I couldn't finish the pint - this was disappointing. When we were given water for the table I observed the server take a tray that had not gone through a wash cycle from the table that had just been cleared and topped up the water from around a quarter of what was left from the previous customer. In hindsight I probably would have asked for a different bottle as it would have been more hygienic, but the hustle and bustle of the restaurant distracted me from thinking about it further. The food itself was OK, just OK and definitely wasn't worth the wait. In the past (albeit we haven't visited for over a year) it was at a much higher standard. We had regularly visited TP&B. The service was well below what we had experienced in the past. There was more than enough team on to cater to the evening and I felt that there wasn't any robust management. We did not receive a check back after waiting nearly 45 minutes for the starter could have been better, it was a Friday night so we expected to have a delay, but not for starters, so I asked for the main ASAP. The main pie aspect of the sharing lamb was hot, but the meat and carrots/mash were not. The meat was served very rare; which I like but wasn't seared enough on the outside. I feel that it was rushed after having waited for well over an hour.

Fantastic Sunday roast somewhat spoilt by subpar service. Fully appreciate the popularity because the food is great, but having to wait 45 minutes to be seated having a reservation isn't good enough. Staff seemed constantly distracted and under pressure, with requests from our table being missed and unattended to. Hopefully a one off occurrence.

Lovely experience at the pig and butcher. From the very start staff were really friendly, from amending booking to being served at restaurant. We did have to wait a bit for our table to be ready but tho wasn’t an issue as we were waiting on some guests. Food came out quickly however temperature of some dishes varied and wasn’t consistent. Good amount of food and good value for money overall.

I chose to spend my birthday here because the team at The Pig and Butcher is simply the best! Nora, impeccable floor manager, made sure we had a great time. She's the perfect example of how a kind, smiling, and attentive person makes all the difference in a venue. Kassim and Giovis were so kind and helpful. They really went above and beyond to make it a unique experience. Special mention: their Vegan Sunday Roast.

Main issue was the food - we had Sunday roasts for a table of 4, and across the board the food was bland and poorly served. Roast potatoes were neither crispy or fluffy, all veg was slightly undercooked but still leathery, and the chicken was very dry. The food was akin to something you’d find at a carvery, where everything has been left under heat lamps for far too long. Unforgivable at the price point, I’ve had many roasts for half the cost at more basic / pub establishments. Very disappointing. Service was neither poor nor exceptional. Wine was decent. Overall wouldn’t recommend the roasts. Can’t comment on weekday offering but very unlikely I’d go back to try it.
