The Pig and Butcher opened its doors in 2012 and has become a bit of an Islington institution. A laid back country style pub with a stunning private dining room and honest cooking showcasing the best farms in the UK.

In the bar we serve craft beers, wine from family-owned vineyards only, aperitif cocktails and a selection of local hand pulled ales.

    We have recently completed our beautiful private dining room. With a wood burning stove and Aga oven, it’s our own farmhouse kitchen in the heart of Islington. There is no charge for the room however there is a minimum spend. It is available for either lunch or dinner and will seat 16-24 guests comfortably. For availability and minimum spend details drop us an email at crackling@thepigandbutcher.co.uk. We offer our feasting menu – all dishes are served on vintage platters ‘farmhouse style’ for the table to share. It is quite meaty, but don’t despair, Vegetarian and Pescatarian guests will be catered for by the daily changing a la carte menu.

We only use the best farms & suppliers in the UK & talk to them daily to find out what produce is good to use.     Was really looking forward to trying out and butcher. As I had heard good things. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. The service was ridiculously slow for both food and drinks. I was given the wrong starter which meant I had to wait even longer. Luckily my husband ordered tartare so he waited till my starter finally arrived as his couldn’t go cold. We ordered the lamb for main. It was really fatty. And lacked flavour. The mint sauce tasted like toothpaste. The potatoes and veg were just meh. The gravy was ok. I then had strawberry cheese for pudding. This was actually really nice. All in all though. Not a great experience and wouldn’t rush back.

    All I have to say is WOW. What an amazing spot for Sunday roast. We had the sirloin and the pork belly and both were fantastic, as well as the cauliflower cheese. Suzi was an amazing server and Marketa’s hospitality truly makes this an exemplary place to spend an evening. The strawberry cheesecake was especially good as well. Can’t wait to come back again!

    Went here a year ago and it was brilliant. This time, we were served out food within about 2 minutes of ordering. Before our drinks and before the nibbles we had ordered as starters. It was clearly pre prepared and was cold. I just don’t think you can charge £28 for a roast and serve it like this. What was supposed to be a special meal was done in about 30 minutes. We felt totally rushed and let down by the experience.

    We have been going to the Pig and Butcher for over 4 years, however, recently we feel the quality of the food has reduced. The portion sizes have reduced with items that use to come with Sunday roasts now being extra side orders, the meat portions have reduced, as well as the cooking quality. At £56 for 2 people for the roast dinner, we expected better quality. Unfortunately we probably won’t go back now as this has been a steady decline over the last 12 months.

    Food was great but service was even better! Had two friends in from out of town and Marketa made it such a great experience!! She was beyond attentive and help make it a lovely night.
