As you walk into the Peacock you get the feeling of history, built in 1652, the hotel was originally used as a dower house for Haddon Hall. The link between the two survives today as Lord Edward Manners brought the hotel back into his estate in 2004, the hotel has many pieces of unique furniture and art work from the Estate. The Bar is another step back into the past with a copper topped bar and untouched surroundings, the extensive cocktail and drinks list can be enjoyed in the bar or lounge before dinner. Our restaurant team have been the proud bearers of three AA rosettes–the top ten percent in the country. We offer both an indulgent, fine dining menu & a more relaxed bar menu to suit most tastes or moods. We serve truly local ingredients including organically-reared beef & lamb from the Haddon Estate. We are open for lunch in our bar and restaurant Tuesday to Saturday and dinner in our bar Tuesday to Friday and dinner in our restaurant Tuesday to Saturday.

The food was really good, very well presented. I know it’s fine dinning but there wasn’t enough of it for the price. The canapés and lovely bread were a great touch. The ambience is lovely with the staff being very attentive and the great guitar player set the scene. The bar area is ever so quaint and the dining room was peaceful. I think the cocktails are extortionate and nothing exemplary and was totally shocked to get home and find an orange and lemonade cost £8.40 which is disgraceful and totally taking advantage of going out for a reputable meal. It’s doesn’t entail anything complex, it’s just as simple as pouring a small bottle of orange and then some lemonade.

We have been regular visitors for lunch for a number of years. I booked a table to celebrate my friend's birthday. On the morning of the booking I was called by The Peacock and asked if I would like to sit outside as it was such a lovely day. I agreed. However, when we arrived we were shown to our table, it was in direct sunlight with no shade. Most of the other tables were in shade with umbrellas. When I asked if we could have an umbrella for shade the member of staff looked a little awkward and apologised that there was not. No offer of an alternative was offered. It was an uncomfortable experience. Expected better from a premium venue.

Return visit with my wife, after the previous one in Summer 2021, to celebrate joint birthdays and wedding anniversary. Excellent meal for the most part, especially the salmon starter and the Derbyshire lamb main - both delicious, interesting and morish. My wife enjoyed the vegetarian options too. Dessert / cheese - my wife had the crème fraîche mousse and thought it rather bland. I had the 3 cheeses, none of which were described by the server, unfortunately. Service was largely professional, informative and efficient. The decor of the back dining room could do with some t.l.c., as it appeared a little tired and flat and "lacked warmth" (re: colour scheme), according to my wife. Our main reason for coming back, however, was to have another bottle of the Domaine St Baillon, Cotes de Provence 2020, Syrah, Grenache. Oh my word - still as amazing as last time. Like nectar! Overall, the pricing was on the high side, but worth it for the celebratory aspect of our visit. I'm sure we will be back, even if just for the wine!

Lovely quality food with a modern twist in a unique and beautiful building. All the ladies who either assisted us or served us lunch, went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome and looked after. Thank you

We have been eating at The Peacock under various managements for over 40years. We have always had an excellent meal particularly in the last few years. Our meal on Saturday 25 May was therefore a great disappointment. Ist course chicken and eel was bland and tasteless.. Main course of monkfish was served with an unidentifiable mish mash in bowl making it difficult to get at with a knife and fork.. The design of both courses was a misjudgement. Either the chef had a one off bad night or you need a new chef.

We love the Peacock. It is a”destination” restaurant for us - it is a 90minute journey but that is part of the charm. Lunch was fabulous. The menu had plenty of choice without being overwhelming. Service was quiet, attentive without being suffocating. Table service was “there” when required. For the majority of our stay, we were the sole diners in the room. There is no music. The menu has a heavy seasonal influence and utilises local ingredients where possible. Our starter choices included a perfect terrine with a liver parfait of such richness and unctuousness that it was almost too much but stopped on the Brinkley of this. The Jersey Royal and pea croquet with veloute and nasturtium pesto was a brilliant piece of balanced cookery. We both enjoyed the Derbyshire leg of lamb for our main courses - the lamb cooked to perfection, beautifully pink, melt in the mouth served with wild garlic and goat curd. As mentioned, we have visited the Peacock for lunch and dinner many times over the years. It is a “traditional” country hotel in a setting that is hard to beat. On one of the wettest days of this already wet Spring, opening the door into the hallway was like coming home. This was a flying visit and it was hard to leave the embrace of the hotel for the drive home.

Shockingly poor dining experience, despite giving the kitchen months of advance notice there was zero effort or adjustments made for food allergies; gluten and diary - I had to almost creat my own dish from ingredients on ALC and vegan menus! Never had that before! We arrived early for a 1915 booking and were only shown to the table at 1955, 40 mins late without comment explanation or apology. Then the failing of all failures by the kitchen, they served me a tasteless starter that used barley as a significant element despite the menus saying grains and rice along with my repeated stressing about gluten free - furious If that the lack of attention and respect the poorly trained kitchen staff provide then this is definitely one to avoid
