Perched on the hillside offering panoramic views of The Cobb and Jurassic Coast, The Oyster & Fish House is arguably the most picturesque spot in Dorset to enjoy locally sourced fish and seafood. A large terrace wraps around the informal, light and airy dining room offering the perfect al fresco experience with unrivalled views of the coastline.

We support our local fishermen, so you may often see them bringing their catch up to the restaurant. In addition to a selection of snacks and starters, you can expect simply grilled fish on the bone, and of course, the delicious Dorset oysters and shellfish we have on our doorstep. The menu can change twice a day depending on what the fishermen bring to us. Please note we do not serve meat dishes, but we do have vegetarian, vegan and kids menus available.

Large tables are welcomed, and for bookings of 16 or more (including book outs) we ask for you to choose one of our seasonal feasts - designed to share.

For large parties or exclusive hire we offer feast menus which are designed to share. Choose our menus online or we can bespoke one just for you based on what is in season. We offer 3 sharing starters which are placed along the middle of the table, a sharing style main such mixed fish and seafood or surf and turf, and a large sharing-style pudding.

We welcome large parties in the restaurant - the largest table we can offer is a table of 20 guests. We also offer exclusive hire of the restaurant for parties and weddings, as well as being licensed for the wedding ceremony to take place in the restaurant or on the deck with the magnificent views of the Jurassic Coast and Cobb Harbour.

Good quality fish well cooked, but the dishes lacked innovation beyond the basic fish. Limited Menu options

Just do not go if you are Coeliac. I pre-advised my Mother was Coeliac under the "Special request" and with a limited starter section, they couldn't provide any GF bread to have with the "whipped trout pate" or wild mushrooms on toast. They also advised she couldn't have the whipped trout pate as it was made with breadcrumbs so she was unable to enjoy a starter.

Very disappointing experience. The service was terrible. Food even worse!! Ordered the foccacia & trout rillette & popcorn clams as an appetiser whilst we had our drinks. Decided to skip a starter and have a main each. Very disappointed with the choice! I ordered the Plaice and my husband fish & chips The Foccacia was average and the popcorn clams very mediocre. We were waiting a long time for our mains and finally were told that there was a problem with the grill so the plaice had to be recooked! The meal & service was not good and we were both disappointed as the restaurant had been recommended! We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and the price was extortionate!!!

Mark Hix’reputation precedes him but his restaurant in Lyme Regis really needs to buck his ideas up. A very limited menu of mostly over cooked mixed fish platters was very disappointing. Fobbing discerning dinners off with a few bits of rough cut John Dory and a chunk of ray wing (skate..?) is not my idea of a seafood experience. Won’t be rushing back… ☹️☹️☹️

We came to this restaurant many years ago and we thought it was excellent so it was to be a holiday highlight when we returned to Lyme Regis. What a bitter disappointment. We could just about put up with the acrid smoke, the sticky tables and the noise but the food was unspeakably bad. For a fish restaurant to serve a platter - at £65 a shot - of overcooked poorly presented fish was unforgiveable. Much of it was cooked until black, leaving a bitter taste. The thornback ray was so overcooked that below the blackened exterior, the flesh had turned to mush. The rest was little better. The john dory was leather like. There was something very wrong here -it's hard to believe Mr Hix would let this out of his kitchen. I'm assuming the B Team was in charge and it had been a very long day. The chap at the next table had the same dish and he agreed that this was poor cookery. We complained to the waitress and she didn't seem surprised, immediately removing the service charge. We did give a tip because we didn't think the waitress should suffer for the sins of the kitchen. These fish would have been better left in the sea.

We had been looking forward to our first visit to The Oyster & Fish House to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We also enjoy reading Mark's newspaper articles. The food was excellent but unfortunately the service "fell away" during the evening. Specifically a second glass of wine only appeared after a follow up prompt and we had to ask for our main couse plates to be cleared. By the end of the evening it felt like the front of house staff had "switched off". I complained and the waitress in charge handled the concern well, offering a refund for the wine & waiving the service charge which I accepted. To sum up, this is an expensive high end restaurant and regrettably the service didn't match the price. Disappointing! Colin

Service was chaotic as no lead member of waiting staff was directing operations, orders were being mixed up and we heard many apologies from the staff to customers Food over priced for portion size e.g fish and chips on mushy peas £27.00, small piece of fish! Seating uncomfortably as seats wee too close together. Quite disappointed as had been look forward to coming for some time but nothing special at all!!

Tables too close together and sticky. Menu very limited . Staff excellent specially the young man who drove us back into town when we couldn't get a taxi!! Served chilled white wine in WARM glasses.... not very clever. Overall view.....pretty pub standard average......not top class restaurant standard.
