Nothing delights quite like The Orator, serving up contemporary British food, cocktails, beer and wine. Set in a stunning Victorian gothic venue with high ceilings bathed in swathes of natural light.

We can offer private dining for up to 20 in our private Dining Room used to host guests of the Cambridge Union Society, recently including Dua Lipa and Robert de Niro. For larger groups, we have a number of different rooms throughout the venue to cater for any occasion.

We had a delicious meal in a great environment with live music and happy customers. Our waitress, Nat, was very attentive and professional as well as personable. Great cocktails, delicious food - perfect sized portions. Highly recommend this venue for an evening out with loved ones and/or friends.

Not a good start as we arrived a couple of minutes before our booked time but were told our table had been allocated to another party and we were offered seating on high chairs in the window. We didn't want to be balancing on high chairs but they did quickly find a table with two sofas facing in the bar area for us to sit at. The food and service were very good.

The food is well cooked and presented and very tasty but the menu has “dumbed down” since we were last here and the choice is not as extensive and some offerings are little more than pub food. (Suggest avoiding the crispy gnocchi which were rubbery). The drinks menu was great! The staff were attentive and lovely and the bill was good value for money. In summary, special for drinks but, unfortunately, not for food anymore.

Superb dining experience with a well-cooked, inventive menu. The new manager, Claire, is overseeing an excellent turn-round. Still one or two staff members who could benefit from some training in service. Excellent and knowledgeable bar staff, especially Pedro.

The food was totally incredible.... really. Was so surprised to get this level of food for the price and location. Do not be deceived the menu is simple, but totally delivers. Cannot recommend enough - brilliant restaurant !

The food and cocktails were delicious, but what made this evening so special were the staff (our waitress was particularly fabulous, so wish I'd got her name) and the overall atmosphere. Gorgeous seating, lovely furniture, a variety of areas to eat, drink and socialise. The history of the building and pictures on the wall were a great talking point. The ability to play the piano, just made it! We will be back. Thanks so much :-)
