Nothing delights quite like The Orator, serving up contemporary British food, cocktails, beer and wine. Set in a stunning Victorian gothic venue with high ceilings bathed in swathes of natural light.

We can offer private dining for up to 20 in our private Dining Room used to host guests of the Cambridge Union Society, recently including Dua Lipa and Robert de Niro. For larger groups, we have a number of different rooms throughout the venue to cater for any occasion.

Great food and ambiance but the service was lacking. It wasn’t that busy so I expected more attention but had to chase the staff down to get my order in and then chased again for getting more drinks. That was annoying but otherwise the food and the atmosphere was lovely. Also note that if you want to eat outside you can only order snacks and not the full menu.

Our waitress was actually very friendly, but the service was painfully slow throughout, and while the food was generally good, there were relatively few options for the kids. Without the waitress's service and demeanour, the experience and this review would have been much more negative. Highlight: Our waitress (who was also the manager) and the chips Lowlights: the time required to be acknowledged, served, and orders taken.

It didn't meet my expectations, I'm afraid. The food was genuinely good, but the ambiance was a bit low-key and the service was just OK. We were the first to order, and they had already run out of one of the dishes we ordered. A bit underwhelming!

Just another superb dining experience! Perfect table for me and my two friends. The food options were well balanced and loved the tapas which we all had. Lovely cocktails enjoyed too. Just spot on service also. Well done everyone The Orator! You are one of my favourite and go to places on Cambridge! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Limited selection of food is available at lunch time, and a lack of vegetables. Great if you’re a meat eater. Staff were friendly and discreet. Fantastic bottle of Riesling.

We attended the Thursday night music night in the garden. What a wonderful evening with a great ambience. Four singers entertained us through the evening with some great singer/guitar acts. Food and service was good and the whole evening just a delight. Would recommend when the weather is nice without hesitation.

Horrible dry food Dry stale burger bun and dry Flatbread !!- with a few dry falafels no dip/dressing/would you like …?? New chef was the excuse!.. A main asparagus: large portions can be as sharing OR main?!.. Hand full of rocket and 6 asparagus?!!! Not a main! SO NO NEVER AGAIN!!!

The food was great, but the service was not at all impressive. We had to ask three times for the waiters and it took about 20 minutes to get ketchup after we had got our food, by which time the food was cold and our appetite was ruined.
