Nothing delights quite like The Orator, serving up contemporary British food, cocktails, beer and wine. Set in a stunning Victorian gothic venue with high ceilings bathed in swathes of natural light.

We can offer private dining for up to 20 in our private Dining Room used to host guests of the Cambridge Union Society, recently including Dua Lipa and Robert de Niro. For larger groups, we have a number of different rooms throughout the venue to cater for any occasion.

Horrible dry food Dry stale burger bun and dry Flatbread !!- with a few dry falafels no dip/dressing/would you like …?? New chef was the excuse!.. A main asparagus: large portions can be as sharing OR main?!.. Hand full of rocket and 6 asparagus?!!! Not a main! SO NO NEVER AGAIN!!!

The food was great, but the service was not at all impressive. We had to ask three times for the waiters and it took about 20 minutes to get ketchup after we had got our food, by which time the food was cold and our appetite was ruined.

Lovely place, airy light-filled rooms with high ceilings,,delightful courtyard, just off the bustling streets. Slightly diffident and haphazard service with our 7 meals appearing over about 25 mins despite ordering everything together. However the charming ambience and tasty food made up for it and I would recommend.

This is such a nice place to meet friends, have a lively conversation and be able to hear each other. The bar menu is quality and classy. The food menu again oozes quality and substance at an affordable and fair price. Will be returning x

Great atmosphere with live music, food was good (more limited for non meat eaters but still have options), good beer and wine lists. Service a wee bit inconsistent but it was congregation time so couple large tables taking the server’s attention. Will return

We had a superb evening at the Orator. There was live music with an absolutely fabulous singer, Rachel Hill, who sang with her guitar and created a fantastic atmosphere. The place was bubbling, the garden was full and what a nice way to spend a sunny evening. I had about the best smash burger I have ever had and my wife had the vegetarian flat bread which she thought was also great. Staff were lovely and whilst busy did make an effort to return to our table and look after us. We will definitely try the Wednesday night piano bar and come back on a sunny evening to the garden.

This was a nightmare. The service was almost laughable if it hadn’t been so incompetent. We had a table for four and decided we would eat outside so we knew we had to order at the bar. That process took about 30 minutes despite the place being virtually empty. Getting a bottle of wine was a joke (no rose) only warm white. We gave up and ordered beer. It was as if the staff (of whom there were plenty) found themselves surprised to be waiting staff. No management presence to speak of. Quite shocking. Don’t bother going here there are plenty of better options in Cambridge.

I've been to the Orator before and it was beautiful, but this time sadly the food was a little mediocre - burger was good but salads and fish so so. Also our servant was very poor, he gave the impression that he was on drugs or very high as he was so spaced out. We had to re-confirm our order 3 times and afterwards ask the host (who was very good) to confirm as our waiter was so confused. It was also very slow given that we came at a quieter time and only ordered one dish each. Like I said, the host was nice and friendly and capable but the waiter needs to look for another job or be properly trained as he seemed as it was his first day at the job - if that as he couldn't even comprehend the basic wine order (I ordered house wine). Nonetheless beautiful setting and probably one of the nicer options in Cambridge. Thank you.

Could be amazing , just a few sloppy bits , table for 3 only cutlery for 2 , asked for mayo and was given a half already used dish , pepper corn sauce was a dribble and prob the remnants of someone else’s . Some staff on the ball others not so
