The Old Guinea provides a completely unique dining experience, combining genuine Italian cuisine with breathtaking views of rural Hertfordshire. The Old Guinea, dates back to 1826 and is located between Shenley and Potters Bar and is a blend of tradition and modernity.

Our restaurant embraces classic Italian dishes as well as innovative new flavours and is complemented by an eclectic cocktail and wine menu. We are a family-run, family-friendly restaurant that serves excellent homemade cuisine, fresh ingredients, professional service, and a welcoming ambience.

We are open all day from 8.30 a.m. serving a delicious breakfast in the morning and continuing with our all-day menu from midday in our beautiful Garden Room and restaurant, dogs are welcome in The Floral Bar and in our large garden when weather permits.

Fab restaurant. Sat outside overlooking open farm land. Tasty food. Friendly, professional service. Unbelievably rural yet close to towns .

Been to The Old Guinea on many occasions and it never fails to impress me. The food is wonderful and the service great ! . Probably one of the best pizza’s you can eat as well .

Our visit to Herts would not be complete without a visit here. A little gem. Everytime we come to the university to move my daughter in and out it’s a treat to come. It was her graduation and the staff treated us amazingly, prosecco on arrival to celebrate. Catered for a vegan. Veggie and I had the fabulous meatballs. Was very busy but the live music was awesome and we love coming here. See you soon when we move my daughter back in for her masters. Thank you. 🤩

The setting is one of the loveliest we have been to in Hertfordshire. The food is straightforward Italian done well with prices that are quite reasonable compared to other Italians in the area. Live music and floor to ceiling windows create a lovely weekend experience.

There was a good choice of food to order and the value for money compared to portion size was great. However, I feel the food was slightly bland. We ordered calamari and halloumi fries x2, the calamari was okay but not the best I have eaten, the halloumi fries were mediocre. For our mains we had a chicken Caesar salad which was very dry and required more of the sauce, prawn linguine which was a bland flavour and the spaghetti carbonara which was also bland in flavour. The portion sizes were big and good value for money, however the flavour of the dishes was lacking something. For dessert there was a great selection and we ordered the banoffee pie Which was nice and the star of the show the vanilla cheesecake which was incredible, the raspberry sauce was delicious. The waitresses and waiters were friendly and kind, they provided a nice birthday candle in the slice of cheesecake which we requested. However, it did at times take some time to get noticed to be served more drinks. The restaurant itself is beautiful and well designed and the view is lovely! The staff again were very lovely. I would return to the restaurant, to try further dishes, despite the slight disappointment with the taste of the food. It was a lovely evening

The menu is mainly Pizza and pasta but the starter choice was very good. The Linguine with crab and Linguine with prawns were both delicious. The prices are reasonable and the service was very friendly and attentive. Would certainly go back again.

Food was OK, , the pizza was half cooked in the middle and burnt on the outside, not enough cheese Waiters couldn't handle the volume of people when it got busy. It was just okay

Lovely place for lunch or dinner. I personally prefer having lunch here as the service is better. food is great and fresh lovely place with very pretty settings

The Pollo Pesto was dry and heavy. The taste was good but the texture wasn’t. Possibly overcooked, too much chicken? Previously when I have had this dish it has been creamy and lighter. Two of our group had this dish and we both agreed on this. We were given 2 free coffees.
