Dining at The Old Deanery is an immersive experience, and you move through the building as you dine. Arrive into the cosy welcome lounge for pre-dinner drinks; chat, get comfortable, and relax – there will be no classical piano and hushed tones in here! Move through to the bar where you can watch some of the chefs work before they invite you to take your first course. The main event takes place in the restaurant, but forget white tablecloths and stilted service; the food may be formal but the atmosphere is not. Finally, you can retire after dinner to a cosy chair and enjoy a coffee and petits fours. Stay the night and enjoy views of either the lovely garden, or striking Cathedral. Then wake to a home-made breakfast board of granola, yoghurt, continental bites, and cooked goodness: A breakfast with a difference and the best way to sign off your stay.

Tasting Menu £90 with a £40 per person pre-paid deposit to secure the booking. Cancellations can be made up to 48hr before the table. If cancelled within the 48hr period the deposit will be lost. Head Chef Adam Jackson's Signature Tasting Menu created with seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. Due to the intricacy of our Tasting Menu and our small kitchen team we will not be able to cater for vegan guests or lactose free diners. All other allergies can be catered for.

Amazing food - top quality ingredients put together so well that each course danced on the palate and left us wanting more. We’ve eaten here quite a few times and the food has been exceptional on each occasion. If you haven’t tried Adam Jackson’s food - you absolutely must. The whole team are super friendly and explain everything in a lovely way. The ambience is fabulous - not at all stuffy - and the music choice spot on. If I could eat here every week I would!

We went for a birthday treat. We were warmly welcomed and shewn to a table which was very close to a speaker. One of us is very deaf and finds background music a bit tricky. The staff were helpful and relocated us to another, quieter spot. Our personal introduction to the chef was a nice touch. Food - all interesting. The trout 'amuse bouche' and the bread were outstanding. The wines were all well paired with the food and our sommelier was 'generous!' The evening was well timed with a suitable gap between courses. The dining room was lit well but clearly, some repairs/decoration needed. [Final note re: music. This is a sophisticated, expensive restaurant. The dining room ambience was warm and subdued. In my opinion, background music devalues this.]

I would have given 5 ⭐️ had I been able to bite into my roast potatoes. Sorry guys just too hard for me. That said I will return!

The whole experience was amazing. The setting is beautiful. The ambiance and surroundings are high end without being pretentious. Adams food is wonderful and the flavour profiles he creates are sublime. The service and knowledge of the staff is exceptional. We did the wine pairing, and the understanding and detail of information delivered by the young ladies really helped us understand how the drink interacted and complemented the flavour profiles of the food. Despite not (yet) having a star, this is Michelin quality dining. This is our second visit and we will be back.

We had the 10 course tasting menu which was fabulous. The food was like a work of art. Excellent service and beautiful surroundings. Would recommend.

Michelin quality tasting menu in a perfect setting.... couldn't fault the menu at all...every course was unbelievably tasty. The Deanery is a lovely old building.... restaurant space possibly could do with a little more ambience....will go again
