Another lovely meal with friends. We are very lucky to have such a great pub serving wonderful food nearby! I had the egg with chowder to start - it was incredible. And then had the halibut which was also amazing. The food is really well presented and so well made. Prices are also very good for the quality of food. Great service too. Thank you!

Firstly, let me say that The Oakley is a beautiful pub with great ambiance. We ordered the lunch special of venison ragu but were rather disappointed when a small bowl of food came out and we had waited an hour for it. It was also rather bland. I had to ask the waiter for more water twice which I could have understood if they were busy. However, the sticky toffee pudding was fantastic! So a mixed review.

Fantastic food as usual. The halibut was wonderful and beautifully presented. We were lucky enough to be able to sit out in the garden too.

I thought the menu looked nice but I wasn't expecting it to be quite as good as it was. Nice, concise menu and everything was delicious. The haddock and chips was the best fish & chips I have had in years - tasted like the oil was really clean and everything was absolutely greaseless. I also think you can really tell how much care a place puts into things by how good a side salad is, and the little gem salad was just superb: very lightly dressed, incredibly fresh, crisp, properly washed leaves and a bit of tang from some pickled red onion. The only element that wasn't absolutely perfect was the choux bun on the assiette of desserts, which was a little thick. Great service, lovely room. Brilliant.

We felt privileged and honoured when we were asked by Chef Andy to trial their new tasting menu. One enjoyable part of this experience was that we didn’t need to choose from the menu! All we had to do was sit back, enjoy our drinks, and wait for the food to be bought to us. As it usually takes me a long time to decide what to eat from The Oakley Arms’ wonderful men, I think I’ll let Chefs Andy and Lizzie choose all of my meals in future! Each course of the tasting menu was perfectly curated from locally sourced, foraged or homegrown produce. This resulted in flavours which truly popped, interesting and exciting textures, and gave us the opportunity to try dishes which we wouldn’t normally choose. The first course was a crispy egg with a perfectly runny centre, nestled in a smoked haddock chowder. It was truly delicious and a dish which I thought would be perfect for a lunch or lunch as well as a brilliant starter. Next was the pasta course. We were served a venison ravioli, spiralled and dressed giving truly wonderful flavour. Again, this would also make a great lunchtime dish. Moving onto the fish course. This was beautiful, flaky white cod, nestled in a rich and flavoursome sauce fragranced with gently warming spices. It was like a great big hug in a bowl. The meat course was a succulent piece of duck breast with a delicious sausage on the side. Hand-foraged elderberries and a vibrant sauce matched perfectly with the duck and the accompanying,?seasonal vegetables. The pre-desert was a brilliant selection of sorbets and a chilled mousse, each texturally interesting and with taste-tingling flavours. The chocolate brownie dessert plate brought our spectacular meal to a close. Again full of different textures and perfect flavours. The pace of delivery of each course was balanced and timely. Each course was truly delicious. Service was outstanding. All in all, a perfect meal, and one which I whole-heartedly recommend. Thank you so much.
