The Oakfield is set in a stunning property at the heart of Chester Zoo, making this a truly unique contemporary British pub.

With pride and passion we’ll be serving freshly prepared locally sourced food and hand-picked beers, wines and spirits. The Oakfield has been lovingly restored and our new garden room offers incredible views of our award winning gardens.

From meeting the host to being take. To our table and having the lovely Bethan looking after us the whole experience was brilliant! Love eating at The Oakfield whenever we visit. Excellent! Congratulations to everyone

Approximately our 10th visit in recent years. And our worst. Waited a good while to give our food order, ordered food then drinks which seemed strange. Weren’t offered water. Fish and chips excellent, three of us had the steak ciabatta. Two orders were tough , the third nice and tender. Waited an age for plates to be cleared. Staff very pleasant, but seemed rather understaffed. Will return as we love it here, just not very good today.

Absolutely loved the experience at The Oakfield. The service was impeccable and all the staff were so professional and lovely to deal with. The food was delicious and hot - I had the sausage and mash which were some of the nicest sausage I’ve ever had and my friend had the steak focaccia which she thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend a visit.

Food was lovely. Service was good but lacked a few basic touches. Ordered wine, water and food at the same time. Drinks arrived but we had no water glasses. Bottle of wine was left on the table. I would have liked it to he opened and poured for us. Food arrived very quickly and was very good. 1 person ordered dessert. It arrived but no cutlery was brought. This should have been brought to the table once the order was put through, definately before the dessert arrived. Overall lovely location and worth visiting.

The setting and the restaurant itself are beautiful. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The menu items coming out of the kitchen such as the Sunday lunches and the fish and chips looked amazing. We had afternoon tea booked for 3 people which was mediocre. The whole presentation felt rushed and with little care. Some of the sandwich fillings were delicious but others fell seriously short of the mark, the quality of the bread did not feel the freshest and the fillings were not shared with every member of the party (ie. 2 of each filling for a party of 3) I do not feel it appropriate to have to ask for extra sandwiches for Afternoon Tea for 3, the serving should be of adequate size and quality from the start. I would go back to The Oakfield but I would give the afternoon tea a miss and eat off menu.

Really lovely pub meal. The staff were all friendly and professional. The food service was excellent and came out really quickly despite a large group ordering before us. All of the food we had was delicious, the menu had plenty of choices and catered to all diets. Highly recommend

We always eat at the Oakfield during our quarterly visits to the Zoo. It is a beautiful building and lovely place for lunch. Unfortunately the menu is now very limited with very little choice. There has been no significant change for some time. We will continue to eat there but the experience could be so much better.

When you first opened you had a range of vegetarian and vegan options. Yesterday there was only one (you had run out of pasta - how is that possible?) Since eating less meat is regarded by scientists, the climate change committee and the national food strategy, as a key part of saving our biodiversity, why does a restaurant run by the zoo continue to present a menu which is 90% dead animals? Yesterday we were reduced to having a starter as the main course. Its a lovely location with good staff, but a restaurant needs good food options!
