Why The North Coal? The concept was created by the feeling of being away from city life with family and friends. For us, that’s Northern Ontario, but as lucky as we are to experience that way of life, not everyone is. Our mission is to provide that feeling regardless of your surroundings.

    Great place in downtown Burlington to grab a meal and drinks. The service is always excellent. They have a delicious uncomplicated menu with something for everyone. Outside patio or inside—always love dining here.

    We were very pleased to get a call shortly before our reservation to say that they could accomodate us inside. Our reservation had been for outside but the weather had turned cool and cloudy. The service was very attentive and the food was delicious. The complimentary dessert for our daughter's birthday was very much appreciated.

    First of the season happy hour patio dining was great in spite of the weather lacking the usual sunshine. One of our go to dining spots never fails. Looking forward to sunny days on the patio. Cheers to The North Coal!

    Unfortunately it was too windy to sit on the patio. It was for the best though as they have changed from tables and benches seating to tables and chairs. I prefer the later. We sat inside at a nice table in the corner. It was way too loud for our liking. And not sure why I was asked to complete on-line if the reservation for a special occasion? It was for a 65th birthday/retirement, which they confirmed over the phone the day of. I thought perhaps they would provide a “free” dessert, or something. But, nothing. What’s the point of asking that question when making a reservation? It wasn’t the “cottage” vibe that it used to be. Will probably try another restaurant next time.

    It was a great experience. The food was great and the service especially! The sliders for appetizers were incredible. Highly recommend those. We also got the pretzel bites which we didn’t enjoy as much but it was worth a shot. The mains were good too we got the steak frites and the salmon. Those were good too but definitely trying the burger next time and the chicken wings for the appetizer. For desert we got the donut holes. It was absolutely delicious! It’s like a way fancier Timbit but with cinnamon on them. There was a chocolate dip on the side too and icing sugar. Great restaurant and would highly recommend. The service was outstanding and it’s also a great cottage, muskoka feel.

    Great night! We were so disappointed that you changed your fries! Please bring back the shoestring fries!!!! (The ones we were served tonight you can get in any restaurant). Thank you!

    Great service on the patio. Menu selection is diverse and met the needs of our group. Food was hot and fresh.

    This review has nothing to do with the service as the waitress & staff as a whole were very kind! The food on the other hand was incredibly disappointing. Most of us came for the brisket sandwich which they were sold out of, which is understandable if it’s your most popular item, but the food we ordered in place was extremely underwhelming. The beers ordered were warm, which is not what you’re expecting on a hot day. The portions were very small for the price & lacked flavour, we had to add sauce that came with our appetizer to our mains. We unfortunately were all still hungry after eating here. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this place to anybody unless it was for their brisket sandwich which we didn’t have the chance in trying. I’d want to go back to try it, but we unfortunately won’t be coming back again.
