The Monocle was established in 1960 and is located in a historic townhouse-circa 1885. The Federal Room can accommodate 15-65, seated and 125 for standing event. The Atrium area is semi private space for the informal event, up to 36 seated and 60 for a reception. The Wine Room is a private room that can seat up to 10 for an intimate dinner.

The service and food is good. Moreover the parking in the evening is free on the road.

Restaurant is far out-of-town and perhaps not worth the trek. The food was good. The gratin potatoes were the best ever! The filet my sister ordered was tender, but my hanger steak was tough! I could not detect cognac in the cognac mushroom sauce. The ambiance overall was boring, down-scaled. Generally looks run down but has so much potential as an historic building. With all of the great choices in DC, I would not trek back.

We had a world class dinner at the legendary Monocle. We were greeted warmly by owner John and Maitre D' Nick. The restaurant had a good buzz of energy and activity with lawmakers in town and members of the House and Senate dining there that evening. Server Constantine did a phenomenal job. He never made us feel rushed. He made strong suggestions about the menu and the wine list. It was a superb evening. My colleague and I had a great time. Our thanks to all of them!

First time going and we have pleasure of meeting one of the owners and he was Phenomenal. This was out wedding anniversary and this made the day so much better than expected!! The staff was very attentive and pleasurable! We come back again whenever we come to visit!! We wish would have more time to stay and talk as the place is full of so much history and stories!!

We had a phenomenal time. The menu was interesting with plenty of good options. One of us had a bone-in filet. The other had a fantastic chicken breast entree. Our drink selections were fabulous. Then we had a delicious carrot cake and a cheesecake to finish the evening. We weren’t sure we were still hungry, but they were worth it. Thanks for a great evening!

The Monocle knows exactly what it is: a DC insider’s restaurant with a marvelous bar and impeccable service. Oh yes… And very good food.

It was our son’s 10 year old birthday trip, and the staff made him feel so special. The steak was some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend this trusted establishment.

My wife and I wanted to enjoy a quiet dinner after a hectic day in Washington DC. We loved the ambiance and the history of The Monocle. The food was great, the service was very good and the prices were reasonable for the location. I recommend The Monocle for fine dining.
