    The Monocle was established in 1960 and is located in a historic townhouse-circa 1885. The Federal Room can accommodate 15-65, seated and 125 for standing event. The Atrium area is semi private space for the informal event, up to 36 seated and 60 for a reception. The Wine Room is a private room that can seat up to 10 for an intimate dinner.

    Another fantastic dinner at the Monocle. Staff is excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. The steaks were out of this world delicious. We really appreciated the birthday cheesecake!

    I've been going to The Monocle since it opened. I was 11 years old and that was more than 60 years ago. What every visit has had in common was superb service, superb food and superb ambiance. From the greeting at the door to the last bites of their divine chocolate pot de creme a visit to The Monocle is an exercise in delightful, civilized dining. Five stars are not enough for the legendary Washington institution!

    The attention to detail made the service impeccable. The ambiance is relaxing - an opportunity to savor the flavors in each dish. We enjoyed a perfectly prepared and flavorful filet, delicately balanced salad, and a fantastic appetizer of sausage and octopus. There was a great selection of wines by the glass and bottle and specialty cocktails besides the full bar.

    Excellent food and OUTSTANDING service. Went for our anniversary and could not have been more perfect.

    Service was amazing and steak was cooked perfectly. Also really enjoyed the broccolini. It was pricey, but that was expected.

    Restaurant is far out-of-town and perhaps not worth the trek. The food was good. The gratin potatoes were the best ever! The filet my sister ordered was tender, but my hanger steak was tough! I could not detect cognac in the cognac mushroom sauce. The ambiance overall was boring, down-scaled. Generally looks run down but has so much potential as an historic building. With all of the great choices in DC, I would not trek back.

    We had a world class dinner at the legendary Monocle. We were greeted warmly by owner John and Maitre D' Nick. The restaurant had a good buzz of energy and activity with lawmakers in town and members of the House and Senate dining there that evening. Server Constantine did a phenomenal job. He never made us feel rushed. He made strong suggestions about the menu and the wine list. It was a superb evening. My colleague and I had a great time. Our thanks to all of them!
