Our experience at The Marine Room was disappointing. We checked in and the proceeded to wait at the bar. The wait time was about 10 minutes, not too bad. The real disappointment started when we were taken to our table. We were sat at this tiny table in the “middle” of everyone and everything. The restrooms were right behind us and the waitstaff’s headquarters was too. I then politely asked our waiter if there was another table we can be sat at. He looked pretty upset and said “let me talk to the hostess.” He did come back and said come on we can sit you at a private booth away from everyone (with an attitude). We then proceeded to move to the new table and were not greeted by any of the staff for about 15 minutes. Right when we got seated at the new table I did hear a staff member tell one of the other waiters that we had moved from a certain table and were completed ignored by all the waitstaff the rest of the night. Our waiter finally arrived and he was nice and professional, no issues there. However, we were never offered any bread while all the other tables around us were. Waiters were also passing by refilling the tables’ bread and again our table was ignored all night. All in all 90% of the waitstaff was snooty and rude. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the ambiance also. However, our experience at The Marine Room was disappointing and horrible, especially if you’re paying $500 for dinner. Will never be back and definitely will not recommend to friends and family.

as usual, great food and great service at a superb location. Automated valet parking system too clunsy. Took the "glow" off from a grsat evening.

The food was top notch and ambiance was perfect for the occasion. The hostess was also very accommodating and actually had us seated early for our reservation. Our waiter's assistant was lovely and very engaging. We got a coveted window seat which was not guaranteed but very appreciated. Our waiter however left a bad taste in our mouth. While the other waiters were engaging, welcoming, and made conversation with their tables, we had the opposite experience. Ours was much more like a funeral director: serious, stoic, and rigid. Immediately on meeting us, my son wanted to know his name. He ignored him and proceeded to tell us the specials. He did not ask if we wanted the kids pasta (despite Marine Room's website saying there is a simple pasta option). Our kid fortunately is a good eater so enjoyed the steak and lobster bisque. The only thing he told us all night, outside of asking what we wanted to eat, was "good choice" on our appetizer selection. Our child was not disruptive, sat quietly, ate his food without making a mess and did not disturb any other patrons. The whole dinner I was hoping he wouldn't come back to the table because everytime he did, I felt like I was not welcome at this establishment. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times to let them know our experience in lieu of a negative review, but have not gotten any correspondence back. For the price you pay, feeling welcome at a minimum should be mandatory. It's unfortunate because otherwise this is a beautiful spot with delicious food.

Amazing experience overall. Our server, Hector, was very knowledgeable and provided incredible service. Would love to return the next time we are in San Diego.
