The Local Cafe and Restaurant was created to offer experiential learning opportunities for our students. The Local is located on Centennial College, Progress Campus. At the Local, the hospitality, culinary and baking students learn in the restaurant as part of their embedded courses as well as their field placement's under the direction of our Faculty, Chef and Restaurant Technicians.

Our menus are inspired by the international flavor profiles that represent the incredibly rich diversity of those who call Scarborough home. While sourcing locally available ingredients from the bounty of this Province, we are proud to provide our students with the opportunity to develop the skills that hospitality employers demand.

    Sam was a great host and delivered on the promise when I called beforehand to alert the servers that one of my guests needed to know what her halal options were. Yashraj, our server, despite it being his first session and nervous, was very sweet, smiling often and eager to learn. Loved the non alcoholic cocktail of the day. So glad to see the free parking available again for weekend brunches and the option to try as many of the desserts that came with the meal. Be warned…Huge portions! I had the steak with chimchurri salsa very tasty and tender (not halal). Fried chicken burger on sweet potato bun was halal and got a two thumbs up from my friend. She vowed to bring her family next time. Please do advertise your halal options on your social media pages and menu!

    I had the fried chicken last time and it was t nearly as good this time around, this time around it was succulent and juicy. The hot honey was great. The rest of the food and dessert was really good, I wouldn’t go for the fried rice again, but everything else was really good

    We love the food same as the server specially our server mika she is so attentive (small but terrible!) we enjoy our food and the service!

    Amazing value for the money, excellent service, and you walk away with the satisfaction that your experience was part of their learning (most of the operations are run by students).

    We have been here a few times and it’s always been great. The food is always made well and the service is great. If you come here, you do need to remember they are students, so please be patient. But for us the food and service were always quick. Will keep coming back here as long as they remain open!

    It was very difficult to understand the waitress when she was describing the special. All 3 of didn’t know what she said. Maybe have it written somewhere. 1 person was there 15 minutes earlier than the other 2 and ordered a coffee that didn’t come until we were all there. The coffee cups that we weren’t using and menus were left in the table for the entire meal making the table very cluttered. After singing Happy Birthday, one server continued singing a song about God blessing me and although I know she meant no harm it seems inappropriate and unprofessional.
