Our locally sourced food, innovative seasonal menus and friendly and attentive service have earned us our reputation as one of the best independent pubs in Staffordshire.
We are renowned for our selection of contemporary and traditional ales and craft beers, our hand-picked wines, and extensive selection of gin and cocktails.
If that seems too much to get through in a day then we recommend booking one of our cosy hotel rooms, which have been sympathetically refurbished to evoke the original Georgian coaching inn while providing all the comforts of a modern hotel.

Unfortunately not a patch on the service and food the previous week. Re-book for a family birthday but very disappointed. Duck salad was very dry as no sauce and steak ordered with gravy but came with peppercorn which my son doesn’t like. Would have asked for sauce for salad and steak sauce to be changed but no opportunity as no staff came over to check how our meals were. Asked for bill when table cleared and after 15 mins had to ask again. Such a shame but won’t be returning in a hurry.

A great catch up lunch with friends. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The service was good and staff very attentive. The planters outside were full of colour making a really welcoming entrance The only downside was the table was sticky because of the cleaning products that have been used in many places since COVID-19. Staff were happy to clean it again in front of us but it still remained sticky.

Saturday lunch time visit. Probably only 40% of the tables in use and the service was very slow. I would’t want to be there when they were busy. Ladies toilet was out of order and the disabled toilet was offered as an alternative. The disabled toilet was dirty and would not flush. I told a member of staff, he looked at it and swore! The water had been turned off. When I finally did get to go later there was water on the floor, the toilet was full of water and the pipe by the toilet was spurting out water. No viable alternative facilities for ladies. The smell was awful and the solution was to leave the door open and the smell then pervaded the entrance and corridor. I was glad I was on the way out and not the way in! I realise these things happen but it was badly managed. Will not be going back in a hurry. This is a shame as the food was lovely.

Excellent night, good was beautiful and plenty off, staff very welcoming and friendly and was over clean. Easy access also for my elderly friend. Lottie was an absolute delight and she is a credit to you.

I had booked the table for 2pm on Fathers Day so we arrived at 1.50ish to be told there were still people sitting at our table so we said it wasn’t a problem we’d get a drink & sit outside & could they let us know when it was ready!!!!!!! Unfortunately no one came out to us so after 30mins we went in to ask if it was ready & it wasn’t!!!!!!! However then the nice manageress kindly asked the people still sitting to take their drinks to the bar area!!!!!!! This could have been said to them a good 15 mins earlier really!!!!!!! But anyway our table was then cleaned & we sat down!!!!!!!!!!! It was very busy & they looked short staffed & very disorganised!!!!!!!! This is no disrespect to the staff because they were trying really hard to do their job but they were rushed off their feet!!!!!!!!! More staff needed definitely & more organisation of the staff regards serving in the different eating areas!!!!!! But I know they are advertising for staff!!!!!!!! Food was ok!!!!!! I had previously been with my friend on the Thursday before & we had to send the nachos back due to then being all stuck together & far too much salsa guacamole & sour cream on top of them but the rest of the bar snack food we had was fine!!!!!!!!! No consistency with the food atm I’m afraid to say sometimes it’s good sometimes not!!!!!!!!!!!! Having lived in the village for 34 years & frequented the litt over the years Davenports you need to do better!!!!!!!!!!

The table was very small - it felt very cramped. Had to take glasses, water, flowers off to try to create more space. I did request a quiet table but it wasn’t very quiet at all. Food was lovely but I have to say, £5.95 for a side of cauliflower cheese was very expensive. Would recommend but with a caveat of the cost.

Excellent meal, I took my dad here for father's day and we had an excellent Sunday roast. The staff were all very friendly, service was quick and no complaints at all. We had a lovely time
