Steeped in history, The Lion dates back about 500 years, and was built when King Charles I was on the British throne and even before the famous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Originally constructed as a house, for centuries the quirky building has been welcoming visitors as a traditional British pub. With its low ceilings, exposed beams and homely inglenook fireplaces, it has all the charm of what you expect from a historic pub and restaurant. Listed as one of the Britain’s most important buildings, this is a slice of history set right in the heart of the Somerset countryside in a popular English village. The characterful and homely rooms offer a comfortable stay for those wanting to holiday or spend a night or two in this stunning part of the UK.

    This is such a lovely pub and restaurant, great food great staff. We walk there from 3 miles away and it’s always worth it.

    Really lovely country pub. The staff were incredibly helpful, and accommodating - one of our party was very late, and they were happy to serve his dinner when the rest of us were eating our desserts. Delicious food, lovely specials, very good house white wine. I would recommend the strawberry mousse, which was amazing! Lots of space between tables, I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

    Thank you for kindly keeping our table open when my guests were delayed. We had a super lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and service.

    Service was exemplary, the food was delicious. Very dog friendly. The ambience was very welcoming and comfortable. Very friendly staff and owners.

    A nice country pub with a pleasant ambiance and excellent staff. Unfortunately the food was not great though.

    We had a great meal at The lion at Pennard. The food was amazing, the staff were incredibly friendly. We will definitely be revisiting soon. Hopefully the sea bass is still on the menu, because that was DELICIOUS!

    Had dinner here 2 evenings. Food was excellent and very good value. 3 course Dinner for 2 with a drink each came in at about £75. Great starters - we had carrot and fennel; bruschetta with heritage tomatoes; and then on second night shared board of local charcuterie. Delicious fish dishes with accompanying veg. Spectacular blackcurrant dessert. Pleasant roomy dining room with very pleasant and efficient staff. Will be back.

    Friendly, knowledgeable staff and fantastic food. Our Sunday lunch was delicious. When we are back in the area we will visit again to sample the midweek menu
