Steeped in history, The Lion dates back about 500 years, and was built when King Charles I was on the British throne and even before the famous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. Originally constructed as a house, for centuries the quirky building has been welcoming visitors as a traditional British pub. With its low ceilings, exposed beams and homely inglenook fireplaces, it has all the charm of what you expect from a historic pub and restaurant. Listed as one of the Britain’s most important buildings, this is a slice of history set right in the heart of the Somerset countryside in a popular English village. The characterful and homely rooms offer a comfortable stay for those wanting to holiday or spend a night or two in this stunning part of the UK.

    Short but varied menu. Something for everyone! They don't ruin food by putting unwanted stuff like chorizo on grilled fish Beetroot and spinach soup was very tasty and fresh as was my salmon with risotto. Very friendly and efficient service.

    Could not fault the food - it was outstanding. Piping hot and great quality. Service was good - nothing was too much trouble. Stayed two nights and the breakfast was amazing too.

    Vest meal we have had in years, can't fault any of it. Dairy free desserts were incredible!

    We had a wonderful meal at The Lion. The food was superb and the service was efficient and friendly. The local Somerset sparkling Brut was a great choice to complement our meal. The bruschetta was the best I have ever tasted and the cider battered fish was fantastic! My daughter and I returned for breakfast the next morning which was equally excellent.

    The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were both reheated. When I asked for an extra jug of gravy, I was definitely served Bisto! For £20 it should all be fresh.

    Only reason not given 5* is that a couple of menu options had run out. What we did have was nicely cooked, generous portions and very tasty.

    Always a good choice of food here , standards with a little alteration, this evening I settled for the lamb rump , my wife had the fish ( sole) .. both served with a soup starter , Great service , attentive staff , a pleasurable evening . Not the first time I’ve been here , see no reason not to return again .

    Our meal was disappointing - nothing specifically wrong but certainly nothing special. Each member of the party described it as “ok” so at £96 for 3 I would describe it as “expensively mediocre”.
