Sadly we had a very poor experience of Sunday Lunch for 4. We had an exceptionally long wait due to the fact that they had a very large party that they were accomodating. While we were waiting with no apologies from any staff, a table that arrived half an hour after us was served their food before ours. A member of staff popped their head through the door and could see us still waiting rushed off to the kitchen. Shortly afterwards our food arrived by a young lad asking us to be careful of the hot plates. Unfortunately this was not the case as we all said disappointedly that our food was cold. Our plates were collected and we asked to look at the dessert menu. Again no one was available to take our order and sadly after our 2 1/2 hour visit we decided to leave. We then had to hunt down a member of staff to pay our bill. At no point did anyone ask if everything had been alright. So by this time we said to young man that we felt we had poor service and would not be coming back. We had booked this through the app which requested any special circumstances, which we selected Birthday. As it was a birthday treat for one of our party. But this was overlooked too.

The food was excellent. However, slightly disappointed by the fact that I always request a table for a wheelchair user and they dont appreciate that some of their tables are too low for someone with wheelchair to get their knees under.... However, they did try and accommodate but for a 97 year old to move, it was too much effort .... Fish and chips always excellent...

A classic pub with great decor and very clean. The food was amazing and the staff friendly and professional. I wish this venue was closer so we could visit again soon.

We arrived on a Tuesday so it was steak night. 2 excellent steaks plus a bottle of very decent merlot for £50. One of us chose two starters instead. Duck confit and baked Camembert. Quite expensive but the portions of both were large enough for a main course! Service was quietly efficient as usual. A thoroughly enjoyable evening for around £100 for 4.

The food at the Lion was very good - excellent chicken, ham and leek pie and cottage pie. The service was really good, the right balance between attentive and making sure we had space to enjoy our food. Our main gripe, which may not have universal acceptance, is that, because we wanted to bring our dog, we were required to eat in the top bar - we were aware of this when we booked. What we were not aware of is that the top bar is separate and accessed via a different entrance. There are three tables in the top bar and it therefore lacks any form of atmosphere. It had the effect of making us feel second class because we have a dog. We love people watching and engaging with the community and this left us feeling a little cold.

We have always ate in the bar area, have always been pleased with the tables we have sat at. We go often there to dine, food is excellent, everyone friendly, bar staff very helpful, will continue to dine there on a regular basis.

Very nice ambience and staff very friendly, but food overpriced for the quality, sauce with the fish was very gloopy, ham and leek pie nice but at £21.00 it was very expensive Would not return

One of my favourite places always meet here for birthdays so a lot of memories here over the years always a lovely place to visit and food is great
