Introducing the fifth season of The Lineup — a dinner series showcasing New York City’s unsung culinary heroes: the people working on the line at the top restaurants in the city. We’re thrilled to return to Food52's stunning offices in the Brooklyn Navy Yard for an unforgettable season of exclusive, one-night-only pop-up restaurants.

Meet Christian Czernicki, Chef de Cuisine at Union Square Cafe, blending Italian techniques with Korean and Southeast Asian flavors. Sara Pagan, Executive Sous Chef at Agi's Counter, will charm you with a playful, all-vegetarian menu inspired by chain restaurant classics. Finally, Josh Buckmire, Executive Sous Chef at Sofreh, draws from his Grenadian roots to offer a fresh take on Caribbean cuisine, subtly influenced by his years cooking Persian food.

    A Wisconsin native, Chef Christian left academics at Northwestern University in Chicago to pursue his passion for cooking at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. His first role was at the famed Bouley in Tribeca, followed by stints at Gwynnett Street and Betony. Christian later worked at iconic Italian spots like Carbone and Marta, where he met his mentor, chef Lena Ciardullo. Chef Christian's menu is a combination of his years training in fine dining Italian kitchens with flavors of South Korea and other Southeast Asian countries that are incredibly inspiring to him. His menu is adventurous, technically masterful, and wholly unique.

    Born and raised in New York, Sara Pagan developed a love for cooking from her father, a Navy cook. She pursued this passion at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island, earning a degree in culinary arts. After working in various New York kitchens, Sara met chef Jeremy Solomon, who recruited her as his sous chef to open Agi's Counter in 2021. Chef Sara's fully vegetarian menu playfully reimagines the chain restaurant dishes she loved growing up, giving them a creative twist—think of it as if Willy Wonka had taken over Applebee's.

    Hailing from the lush island of Grenada, Josh Buckmire’s love for cooking began when he followed his aunt to her job in a bustling kitchen. This sparked a passion that led him to attend culinary school in Grenada, after which he rose through the ranks at some of the island’s top resort restaurants. A chance opportunity brought him to the U.S., where he cooked at country clubs in Westchester and worked as a private chef. Now at Sofreh in Brooklyn under chef Nasim Alikhani, Josh creates a menu that honors the bold flavors of Grenada with subtle Middle Eastern influences from his time at Sofreh.

    What an amazing evening! The food, ambience, views, service and decor were beyond incredible! It was an evening we will never forget. Thank you to Chef Hannah Musante, Food 52, the entire Lineup dinner team and founder, Elena Besser. We loved it!

    Really incredible experience and atmosphere. The food was excellent (and such a fun concept to give these incredible rising chefs the opportunity to showcase their work!) and beyond that the whole thing was so well curated. You start walking through the kitchen which is cool to see, it's on the waterfront which is beautiful, there's a cocktail hour, and during the dinner portion you sit at larger tables so get to meet some new folks if that's your thing. We really loved it and plan to go again when they release the next tranche.

    From start to finish one of the best dining experiences of my life!! We had the most amazing service and the food was unbelievable! Everyone needs to try the lineup dinner I can’t wait to do it again.

    My first experience and it was absolutely amazing. From the fabulous views of the venue to the absolutely delicious courses prepared by Chef Noah Ponjuan. He and his staff were perfection. Can’t wait to experience the next headlining Chef!
