The Lexington is more than a restaurant, it’s an institution. Located on the corner of Lexington Parkway and Grand Avenue, this St. Paul community was the most fashionable at the turn of the 19th century. The St. Paul elite lived just blocks away and the first electric trolley brought visitors up and down Grand Avenue. The Lexington opened in 1935, after the end of prohibition, and was a popular neighborhood bar to gather and socialize. Previously operating as a speakeasy, the expansive wood panels were perfect for hiding a little booze and one can only imagine the shenanigans going on beyond the hidden staircase behind the coat check. For decades following, The Lex, as it’s called by locals and enthusiasts alike, was the place to be seen; business dealings, cocktail hours, and milestone celebrations were a regular occurrence for St. Paul socialites.

Old school,.. Charlotte great server. PLEASE disclose $15 valet charge which will automatically go on your bill. Great manager as well. Sides TOO large for 2 people. Two sizes would be better.

The service was the worst I’ve ever experienced! I made a note in the reservation that this dinner was for my wife’s birthday. We were seated on time which was great and we were able to see the kitchen through a window which was a great experience! We ordered our hors d'oeuvres and entrees 10 minutes in. Hors d’oeuvers arrived 20 minutes after we were seated. But once we were done with our Hors d’oeuvers it took 1.5 hours to get our entrees and the waitress didn’t come by the entire time. She never asked if I wanted a refill of my drink (I had to ask after my glass was empty for 40 minutes). If the food wasn’t so amazing and the best I’ve ever had I would have given this place a 1 start. And to be honest a three out of five is more than fair since for two people the meal cost $250 and the service was something out of an Applebees. Once we got our food the manager did come over and apologized and blamed the kitchen multiple times and he asked if the food was warm (which it was and should be since it took an hour and a half to make) and said he would rectify the situation (comp’d my wife’s two drinks). We let him know that the extremely poor service was not solely on the kitchen staff but the waitress who never came back to our table to give us an update until 5 minutes before the food arrived. And that she never asked us if we wanted refills. I’m only willing to give this place a second chance because the food was amazing.

We booked here with close friends to celebrate all four of our birthdays. We were seated in the Williamsburg room. Andrew was our waiter and provided stupendous service. There was a jazz trio playing in the room which started 1 1/2 hours into our reservation. The room was already loud and while the music was pleasant it just made the room that much louder. We have not had such fine service in years. And the food was delicious but pricey. They even went so far as to present us each with a specially prepared birthday dessert for each of us. It was really a special evening out.

We were visiting from out of town and it was our first time at The Lexington. We had a great experience and will be back! The ambience, wait staff, food, and comfort level were outstanding.

The purpose of our gathering which was a tribute to a recently deceased friend, who used to book her birthday party with this group every year with these people. I was disappointed with the quality of the food, but the service was good. I didn’t expect the same old Lex, but it would have been nice to have a better quality of food. Terribly over-priced for what was provided.

We took our parents here for their 30th wedding anniversary. Our server Farrah was PHENOMENAL!!! So knowledgeable on the menu and checked on us frequently! The gnocchi is a MUST (we got 2 servings). Meatloaf Wellington can definitely be split and is also a very good entree! Of course the steaks are amazing and cooked to perfection. Will be returning!

I highly recommend The Lex for any type of outing. Casual drinks at the bar, elegant dinner in any of their beautiful dining rooms or a more relaxed setting on the fun rooftop! The service and food and cocktails are exceptional. We can’t wait to return!

Very disappointed in our return to the Lexington after such a fabulous experience previously. We brought my in-laws who have never been for both their anniversary and birthday, and no special dessert or picture taken, which we had for our anniversary on our previous visit. Our server had no personality and was slow on service. My husband ordered a filet medium rare and it came almost well done. He sent it back - the waiter did not apologize - and it took 15 minutes to come back. The rest of us were done eating by then. When the bill came, they had not taken the steak off the bill. I had to ask the waiter to do that who then had the manager come over who took care of it. I should not have had to ask for that. Very disappointing visit.

Remember that sides are very generous. We couldn’t decide so the four of us ordered three sides and took home a lot of all three. Because they’re good its easy to over order.
