I’ve been to many fine dining restaurants and steak houses across canada, I’m a chef and value my restaurant experiences and normally try and shoot for high quality service and food, our affordability being a father of 3 under 3, I’ve avoided the keg this far as I don’t really like chain restaurants, but with the snow storm we had all my usual spots were closed and I owed my wife a date night. First the good, our server was kind, attentive and outgoing. My wife’s cocktails were good and she said she would order them again. But where the experience fell flat was the food. We ordered two appetizers and two steaks. Our first appetizer was extremely lacking, we got the bacon and scallops and the scallops were tiny and flavourless and the bacon was externally dry and was definitely deep fried (for far too long). The Brussels caesar salad was good, could use some fresh Parmesan. But the steaks I was looking forward to as I’ve heard people (friends and family) really enjoy the steaks at the keg. Unfortunately they fell extremely flat, we both ordered medium rare - what I would say is the most common cook, mine came out medium and hers came out rare. The vegetables were flavourless and unseasoned and the “keg fries” I got were just frozen shoe string fries. (With a name like “keg fries” I was expecting thicker, hand cut and fresh fries) not something that resembles overcooked McDonald’s fries. The highlight of my meal was the béarnaise sauce. We were honestly too hungry to get the steaks remade after parenting three children all day and considering our server told us there was already a mistake made and the kitchen had to re cook our order, we didn’t wanna wait another 30 minutes for our recook. For a $250 meal, we were extremely disappointed. Definitely wouldn’t recommend and most likely will not be back.

It was amazing. I got the baseball steak and it was cooked to perfection! Server was attentive and came around at the perfect moments!

We had reservations early and it was the best meal ever at the Keg. Everything was cooked to greatness and the server was amazing.

The food was outstanding as always, only thing was it took a little longer to get our food then normal, the server was great I think it just took the kitchen a little while to get the food.

What an enjoyable evening we had at The Keg in Peterborough!! A warm welcoming, followed by excellent service all around. Our steak dinners were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection! Our server, John Paul, was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. He suggested the perfect wine pairing for our meal. Thank you John Paul for going above and beyond to ensure that our dinner experience was exceptional!

My wife and I celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary on February 8. We were disappointed in our seating since we were giving a very small table. After I complained to our waitress, she was grateful enough to go get the manager who brought us to a bigger table where we could both sit comfortably. The next time I will make sure I state in my reservation that I would like to have a table that’s big enough for two of us.
