Went for the first time with my husband for a celebration dinner. When we each ordered a glass of wine, the waiter asked if we wanted a bottle. We said no, only wanted one glass each. When the bill came I noticed we were charged $12 more than we should have been for a glass. When I asked our waiter about the extra cost he told us he always gives people the 9oz pour instead of the 6oz when they order a glass and hopes they don’t notice, but if they do he’ll refund them the difference so offered to take off the extra $12. I can’t believe he told us that. Pretty shady. If he does this all the time then I’d have to assume the restaurant knows about it. The food was delicious, but that sure put a damper on the meal. Don’t think we’ll be going back, but if you go make sure you specify what size pour you want and check your bill.

From the start, our waiter was knowledgeable friendly, and a pleasure to have. The drinks were great appetizers and the main course was fantastic. Since this was our first time there we didn't know what to expect but I highly recommend this restaurant to anybody who likes dining out.

First time here, the food was good but our server got our drinks and appetizers wrong. And I don’t like when there are food runners bringing your food out because for each course that came out to the table it was placed in front of the wrong person. For what we paid I would expect better.

Overall, the experience was just ok. Quite noisy and in my opinion, pricey for what you are getting. The signature cocktails were full of ice and at $20 per drink, not acceptable. $52 for a small piece of halibut and a side that was inedible was also unacceptable. We won’t be going back.

This is a beautiful two story restaurant. The bar downstairs is spacious and very pretty. We ate upstairs where the decor was a mix of barn and chic. Our waiter Carlos was personable and very attentive and one of the owners, Andrew was around to make sure everything was perfect. The food was delicious . We started with oysters and a beet salad. My daughter had the classic beef Wellington and the meat melted in your mouth. My husband had the duck which was delicious and perfectly cooked. I had a halibut special and the fish had a perfect crisp to the outside. Definitely will be visiting again.

The service was amazing. The seafood tower was great. The main course lacked seasoning the appetizers we’re OK a lot of hype and above average prices for mediocre food

Everything was great with one exception. The noise level was so loud that it was difficult to have a conversation. It must be the acoustics of the restaurant. Some sound absorption would be beneficial.

I had the pleasure of eating at the James. I do not think that I would have known this restaurant without seeing it on Open Table. The historical building is home to the restaurant. The unique and welcoming entrance is a showcase of the various rooms touched with elegant decor. One can see that the owner(s?) are customer-centric, knowledgeable in hospitality, and have experience in delighting their clients through excellent food, presentation, and welcoming and professional staff. The warm bread started the experience (I doubt you could only have one portion). Our friendly server, Damon, knew that the tiered and shared seafood, lobster, crab, shrimp appetizer, and other dishes would delight our pallets. Though on the higher end, the experience was topped off with desert, making it a treat for the week.!
