We decided to have a lager beer for drinks selection but none were available apart from hoppy craft beers which were poor to be honest. Service was very slow but food was very good. Sort your draught beers out please.

Booked this for my mother in laws 91st birthday treat. I did mention this when making the original booking but was very disappointed this was not acknowledged at all at the restaurant by any of the staff. I did hear a waitress ask a neighbouring table if they were celebrating any special occasion but our waiter never asked or mentioned anything at all. I doubt they get many 91 year old asking to go there for their birthdays!!!!

The Ivy went above and beyond for mine and my friends birthday meal. The food was beautiful. I had also requested a quieter table and they were able to accommodate which made the entire experience really wonderful.

Really nothing out of the ordinary. Suggestions of a lot of “pre-cooking, re-heat and plate up” style of food. Fair enough because that’s how most do it but it doesn’t have to be so obvious! And fresh mint tea that we know was fresh mint because we counted all six leaves in the pint of water. Not a disaster, by any means, but underwhelming.

Really poor afternoon tea experience. Despite indicating when booking that a dairy free afternoon tea was required that didn’t seem to have been taken into account. A vegan version was served which would have been fine except it consisted of 3 finger sandwiches (one of which was a meagre serving of avocado on pumpernickel bread, nothing more elaborate than that), scone and a single piece of chocolate sponge with some fruit still in its straight from the freezer frozen state. Really poor value.

Unfortunately food price inflation has made this an experience that will be rarer for us in future. As a result, expectations are high, and it's hard to deliver against those. While this is still The Ivy we know and love, a total bill of nearly £200 for three people (with only two alcoholic drinks included) has to be reserved for once or twice a year only. The service charge is 12.5% rather than 10%. One of us veered away from having steak because the cost felt prohibitive. The service was attentive but at times a bit lax - we sat for 20 minutes with empty glasses and empty water bottles at one point - and yet waiting staff were rushing around, clearly very busy, as if there weren't enough of them. The food was good but not outstanding, and it felt a bit like this used to be great but isn't any more. Perhaps we are too Yorkshire in our expenses outlook, and our expectations vs reality of the costs of eating out aren't viable. I can see why people are getting posh food from M&S or Waitrose instead of going out for meals - and it's not the fault of restaurants like The Ivy; it's just the impact of rising costs.
