The Ivy is one of my go to places whichever city I am in. Exeter you were slightly disappointing! The maitre de who “greeted” us on arrival was not welcoming at all. Informed that our table was not quite early (we arrived on time), no problem we could wait and asked if we could have a drink while waiting. After a little while we asked again if we could order a drink. We were told quite curtly “no you will have to wait as your table is nearly ready “ - this was my birthday lunch and this felt like we were intruding on her time and bothering her when we should be wait and not disturb anyone. This maitre de spent the majority of her time wandering about with her ‘tablet’ not engaging with anyone. Really poor service from an establishment I have raved about the staff, ambience and service . London, Glasgow, Edinburgh Ivy’s must train her staff with a better philosophy of service that includes the customer experience at the forefront of what they do. Will not return. Spoilt my time

From the friendly welcome to the coffee being served, nothing was too much trouble and the place was buzzing with conversation and anticipation. Great lunch thank you. No photos though as there was a sign at the entrance saying no photography!!??

Volume of food was very small. Had a main (shepherds pie and a desert. Had to get food elsewhere straight after because it felt like a starter. My main took 2 mins to come out, faster than a maccies order.. Also male toilets floor needed a clean. Other than that, service was good and on time and the bar and environment is very easy on the eye.

The food was lovely as always but the service was so slow. We were seated and waited around half an hour for someone to come and take our drink and food order. The table nibbles came and the food straight after. There was no chicken salad left (table was booked for 630pm) so we ordered different meals. Lovely place for a meal but don’t be in a rush!

The food was lovely, well cooked, nicely presented and flavoursome. I was slightly confused when the person serving asked if we wanted both our starters and mains together, I'm not opposed to the European way but there wouldn't have been enough room on the table. She was a little trying repeatedly asking it we'd like more drinks and if everything was ok. I was a little disappointed by the table, I realise this is a busy establishment but I had booked months in advance and requested a suitable table but sadly we were next to the bar and main walkway. However we did have a lovely time, were not hurried in anyway and all loved the zucchini appetiser.

I am on a gluten free diet and my meal came out five minutes before my friend’s and when I questioned it, it was because of this. Then her meal arrives without the side order. When I ask where my serving spoon was, she replied the manager is getting one. Last time I went we had nine people and all meals came out together. Felt disappointed as it was my friend birthday treat from me.

Food was lovely. Service was great. We arrived before 6.30pm so could choose from the set menu. £19.17 for two courses. Beautiful food on a rare night out for us. A lovely treat.
