The Independent is an ingredient-driven, seafood restaurant and raw bar showcasing the Lowcountry's surrounding local fisherman, farmers, and purveyors. Located on historic Front Street, the restaurant pays homage to the community's former, yet iconic seafood market by the same name, with a seasonal menu of Southern-inspired dishes guided by the region's bounty of fresh seafood.

    We went for 54 anniversary. It was a great experience. Highly recommended.

    Restaurant needs to work on their scheduling. We made a reservation for 7:00pm. We did not get seated until 7:24pm. Wait staff needs more help. Service was not anywhere close to expectations. 3 dishes were good, but the scallops were cold. Obviously those were done before the other 3 dishes. Give this restaurant some time to mature and it may be better.

    The food was really tasty, but ours was cold despite the use of heat lamps in the prep area. Overheard our neighboring table state the same. Yes, tables are so close together you can hear the conversations at the next table. Very noisy environment as well. We waited for our table in the bar, but the bartender never spoke to us to ask us if we wanted a cocktail while we were waiting. It’s a restaurant and menu with a lot of potential.

    Outstanding food and service in a beautiful venue. Great selections on the menu including cocktails - and generous portions. We are very fortunate to have this great new restaurant in Georgetown.

    Been at Pawley's for 10 years. First time to INDEPENDENT. Best food/dinner EVER in this area. Fantastic she crab soup and shrimp and grits!! Only negative is that the restaurant is so very loud....great service and lovely hotel. Best of luck and continued success.

    Our second date night at The Independent didn’t disappoint! We celebrated my wife’s birthday with a fabulous meal and great ambiance. This visit, we sat in the bar area which we highly recommend because the noise level is much lower. Shaun is an amazing server who pays attention to detail and makes the experience even better. We would recommend the local oysters on the half shell- super briny and so full of flavor. I enjoyed a perfectly tender fillet. We will be back!
