The Independent is an ingredient-driven, seafood restaurant and raw bar showcasing the Lowcountry's surrounding local fisherman, farmers, and purveyors. Located on historic Front Street, the restaurant pays homage to the community's former, yet iconic seafood market by the same name, with a seasonal menu of Southern-inspired dishes guided by the region's bounty of fresh seafood.

    Everything was fantastic from food to service to cleanliness including an impeccable restroom. The food ordered was appetizers of oysters, crab fingers and chicken livers, entrees of beet and strawberry salad with flounder, filet Oscar and flat iron steak, side of collards. All cooked perfectly and delicious. Highly recommend the hummingbird cake for dessert- amazing!

    I keep hoping that the Independent will work out its issues because both the restaurant and the hotel that houses it (The George) are wonderful additions to Georgetown. The service is slow even when the restaurant is nearly empty and the food is hit or miss. There are some clever and well executed cocktails and a few solid menu items but all lack consistency.

    Had a reservation but waited 25 minutes to be seated. Our wait could have been handled better by the staff. Wine by the glass offerings are not good. Food was good and was prepared in a reasonable time manner. Good menu options. I would return but not in a hurry to do so.

    My party had the best dinner and best service. Our next meals will not compare to the delicious food we had!! Compliments to the chef!

    This is our 3rd visit to this restaurant. The menu is limited and the prices high for the menu items. It's a very nice restaurant and we love sitting in the bar area where it is quieter. The burrata salad is very good. The she crab soup had lots of lump crab meat but no flavor. The scallops entree only had 3 medium sized scallops. The flounder portions were fair-sized but dry. And we were glad we were not in a hurry because it was one hour between our ordering time until we were served our meals. We stayed at the hotel that this restaurant is part of and had a lovely time. Definitely a plus for Georgetown.

    Restaurant needs to work on their scheduling. We made a reservation for 7:00pm. We did not get seated until 7:24pm. Wait staff needs more help. Service was not anywhere close to expectations. 3 dishes were good, but the scallops were cold. Obviously those were done before the other 3 dishes. Give this restaurant some time to mature and it may be better.
