Beloved Peruvian Chef Ricardo Zarate has opened The Hummingbird Ceviche House featuring the Nikkei cuisine he’s known for. In a charming space with a turquoise-quartz bar, The Hummingbird serves an irresistible bill of fare focused on fresh seafood prepared using traditional Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian) techniques elevated by California influences. The Los Angeles Times' Laurie Ochoa wrote: "...the service is caring and the food, including an aji amarillo hummus flatbread and sesame-leaf-wrapped shrimp dumplings with tiger milk aioli, is inventive and delicious. And compared to restaurants charging $200 to $400 for tasting menus, the Hummingbird is affordable — the most expensive item on the menu is a $36 sliced rib-eye steak and the ceviches are $14 to $17." Diners delight in Nikkei hand rolls, delectable ceviches, small bites, hot dishes, desserts and house-made Chicha-Morada drinks. NEW! Such a wonderful evening at Hummingbird. It exceeded our expectations. Every dish was an adventure! We will surely be back soon.

My favorite new restaurant (no exaggeration). Best Peruvian in LA. The chef is inventive and puts together intense but balanced flavors. I’m going back soon!

Wonderful experience! The ceviche, tostadas and handrolls are just delightful (as was our server, who explained each dish as she delivered it). Chef Ricardo Zarate prepared each dish creatively...what a flavor explosion! We tried salmon and crab handrolls, salmon tiradito, yellowtail ceviche, and two specials (octopus tostada and the crispy calamari and hamachi ceviche, our favorite). We will definitely be back!

Can’t wait to go back! The food is really fresh & you can tell it is prepared with careful thought. I appreciated that the cold dishes were actually served in chilled plates, so the ceviche stays fresh while dining. The size of the dishes are small, think tapas style dining where each guest may want to order 2-3 items. My dinner guest and I enjoyed 3 hand rolls (crab, scallop, tomato), 3 of the ceviches (scallop, yellow tail, sea bass), and one of the hot plate specials (octopus). Oh and the purple corn iced tea drink, very refreshing! The restaurant is small, there was only one waitress the Wednesday we dined in but she was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. The music was great, not too loud, so we were still able to converse over dinner. If you live in the area I’d recommend rideshare services because parking is limited and tight, but there are several metered spots across the street as well.

Great new neighborhood hang..the food was fresh and delicious, service excellent. My only complaint is that the music was a little loud for conversation but that's my only gripe.

I live a few blocks away and used to go to Maya's tacos all the time. I like Hummingbird and I appreciate the family feeling. I liked the food and the staff. I felt pretty strongly that the prices are too high for the portion sizes though. Good food, but not a lot for one's money - I think this will prevent me from returning often.

The food is AMAZING! Everything we ordered kept getting better and better and better. We used some of their crispy bread that was served with one of the dishes to mop up every last bit of sauce on every plate we had. Not too upset that they don't have alcohol as they have THC sparkling beverages that are kind of the next best thing. Only a month old and I'm already impressed with how solid the food was. The Spotify playlist was pretty amazing as well.
