We've been serving the people of Braintree and beyond since 2015 and in that time have humbly become ‘one of Essex’s best restaurants.’ We have received recognition from the AA, having been awarded an AA Rosette for ‘culinary excellence’ for five consecutive years, and then in 2023 we received our second rosette, putting the restaurant amongst the top 10 restaurants in Essex. Our food is of course one of our main focuses, but we don’t just stop there. Attentive, relaxed and friendly service is as important as the food and our objective is to make your visit an enjoyably memorable one. Our exceptional wine supplier, Peter Watts Wines (based up the road in Coggeshall) allows us to offer you delicious wines of an exceptional quality. Then add some cocktails, jazz, personality, creativity, a few hidden quirks and we like to think this all culminates to create a truly wonderful experience. Life is about memories; we want to be part of your best ones.

It is always an enjoyable experience to dine in The House by Hilly Gant. We have been going there for several years and have booked for Christmas Day this year. I totally love the ambience and, mostly, the absence of mobile phones. The service is excellent and very friendly. The dishes are excellent. The limited menu allows the offered dishes to be beautifully prepared. I love that they use local ingredients including the meat. There is a separate vegetarian / Vegan menu with plenty of choice.

Great starter which I love the mushrooms on sour dough, rare beef and all the trimmings and a superb honey pana cotta etc it was really delicious. Have never had this before but really delicious!! Wine water and coffee, the perfect Sunday lunch, great service as always.

From the time we walked in the door until we left it was a fabulous experience My wife said it’s the most enjoyable restaurant meal she’s had since we have been together Even the bill was spot on We will be back Thank you guys n gals

Beautiful experience. Dinning there to celebrate my husband's birthday. Service was wonderfully friendly and such a lovely atmosphere. Food was absolutely superb and that's all 3 courses, can't wait to go back!! Would only mention that it is quite a wait for food but no wonder as I am sure they are always busy!! We ordered online and you are asked if you want to disclose if you are celebrating a special occasion so was a little disappointed when there was no birthday surprise from the restaurant, so not sure why this is asked. Overall it was still an amazing experience and meal out, highly recommended and cannot wait to go back but please please PLEASE - can we have a choice of Mocktails and pork free stuffing with the Sunday lunch available :-)

Champagne to start with padron peppers, then a delish skate wing. Waiter was very friendly and attentive. Overall a lovely occasion.
