We’re a 17th century dog friendly coaching inn run by husband and wife team Tom and Claire. There isn’t a straight line in the place and we’ve kept the old character of the pub while injecting some more contemporary charm of our own. Our monthly menu showcases the best the local area has to offer featuring things like hogget reared in the village and wild garlic picked from local woodland. Pies and Burgers are on offer on a Wednesday and on Monday and Tuesday we offer a 2 course set menu for £25 per person. Our bar is stocked with locally brewed hand pulled ales, a wide variety of spirits and a good selection on tap with bar snacks alongside at the weekend. Our games room is always a favourite with a pool table and darts and the locals will welcome you with open arms. New for this year we now have a beautiful outdoor seating and dining area where you can catch the afternoon and early evening sun while trying to spot every one of Tom’s 32 fish (they’re not on the menu though!)

Absolutely gorgeous food and staff. Best meal for a long time . Small portions so get more than 1 course.

Really good food. It would have helped if the menus had given more information about what was in the dishes. For example, I avoided the jerk chicken because of the bao bun being cakey refined carbs, but it came with salad and slaw. Had I known that, I would have had that rather than the two spoons of humus with crackers; my buddy definitely won that one! The quality of the food was excellent, however. You could tell that the steak burger really was from steak and everything was cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a quality meal in a peaceful environment.

Three of us went for Sunday Lunch. Although there was a choice beyond the normal Sunday Lunch we opted for the standard Sunday Lunch. Two of us had the beef and I had the pork, there was a rather nice looking veggie option but no chicken. Both the beef and the pork were delicious and what we liked was they came as a small joint of meat rather than slices. All three of us loved it. It came with roast potatoes nicely crispy, a large Yorkshire Pudding and a small portion of veg which was lovely, I’m not sure what it was exactly but was like some greens cooked with maybe apple sauce, either way it was delicious, and of course gravy. One of the nicest Sunday Lunches we have had in a long time.

Been here a few times now and never does it disappoint. I had mackerel pate and then duck and both courses were delicious and good sized portions. My husband had ham hock terrine and fish and chips and his fish portion was enormous but lovely crisp batter and very tasty. We’ll definitely be back again!

Delicious, freshly home-cooked food. We visited on a Tuesday night and took advantage of the special deal, which was great value for money. We will be back!
