The restaurant has been a dream for Gavin Barnes for over a decade and it has now become a shared vision for the whole team.

We have been a number of times to High street Kitchen and always have a great meal with fabulous service from Laura and tremendous value. However, Sunday lunch yesterday was outstanding. I can honestly say it is the best roast rib of beef I have had in years and the best Sunday lunch, I’ve had outside home in a very long time. We could not have enjoyed it more and the combination of Gavin’s skill in the kitchen and Laura’s charm front of house makes a winning combination.

We choose The High Street Kitchen to celebrate our anniversary during a trip down to Lymington. It was reasonably quiet on a Friday at 19:00, but picked up during the evening. The service was attentive and the food was excellent. We had roasted beetroot and pork belly to start, followed by roasted broccoli and a sea bass, the sides were really large - we had two - you really only need one per couple, unless you have a big appetite! The mango souffle and crème brûlée were a sumptuous end to complete the evening. Highly recommended.

We returned to The High Street Kitchen in July but it was the first time for our guests. They chose the steaks which were perfectly cooked (blue and medium rare). We had the grey mullet and braised beef which were faultless. Portions are a great size and beautifully presented. We felt the menu was good value for money and although the menu choice is small, the the servers/kitchen were happy to adjust our menu choices with any requests. The wine selection is also very good and this time we tried some of the dessert wines as well, all excellent again.

A superb experience overall. A very short - but very tempting - seasonal menu. The dishes were all beautifully presented, with generous portion sizes and all tasted delicious. Great flavour and texture combinations. My guest described the passionfruit soufflé as “the best dessert I have ever eaten.” It really was sublime!

Best meal we have eaten in a very long table. Thank you to chef and the team. Very welcoming and friendly front of house staff. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Shame we don’t live locally - if we did we would certainly be frequent visitors.
