Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining in our gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

The food was absolutely delicious we had a Sunday roast & it was the best roast I’ve ever had (apart from my mum’s ) Highly recommended

We arrived for a birthday treat at 7.45 was shown to a window seat which was fine they took our drinks order and the wine arrived almost immediately fine, we ordered our starter and main, and then waited one hour and 25 minutes before anything arrived, our starter arrived and was ok, we wondered why it had taken so long as it was only a plate of bread and a scotch egg, our main arrived , and was half eaten, we debated having a dessert and decided that it was not a good idea as we may still be there another hour, when booking you asked if it was a special occasion and I mentioned it was a birthday, there was nothing said about special occasion when we had finished so wondered why i had to put it on the booking form. We were disappointed and won’t be going back.

First time eating here and would definitely return after the experience we had for Sunday lunch. Staff very polite and helpful from greeting on arrival to leaving. The food was excellent ams good value.

Food was good but was let down by slow inexperienced service. We had to asked for the drinks menu and were not offered a desert menu.

The food was very impressive and my husband was given a free cocktail for his birthday which was a nice treat. I would have one bit of feedback, and that is to let the customers know what is not available on the menu before you come to take our order, both food and wine. But apart from that our evening was very enjoyable.

First visit since it reopened. We all enjoyed our meal but the wait between ordering and getting our starters was 1 hr and 20 minutes which is quite bit too long! Staff friendly but I scored a lower service score because of the wait. Maybe there needs to be more staff in the kitchen.

After being in the restaurant for over 2 hours and only receiving our starters in that time we cancelled our mains (it was 10pm by this point) so cannot comment on the food. The starters were overpriced and took a long time to arrive. Fancy cocktails and decent wine menu. Shame as the venue is lovely but let down by poor service.

Amazing evening! The best customer service from booking to leaving, nothing was too much trouble for them, owner very friendly and made us feel so welcome. Kindly let me reserve our food as I was worried they may not have on the menu that evening. Cocktails out of the world, amazed at the price of these as they are stunning and well worth the price. Steak was cooked perfectly, love that is not all piled on a plate like other places, quality over quantity for us and we all felt was just right amount of food. No pressure to finish up ever, and we did take a while with the cocktails as were huge. Singer amazing and not too loud which perfect so you can still talk but have the ambience. All other staff friendly, attentive and made you feel welcome. We will definitely be back!

I had cod, chips and salad. It was hot, plentiful and tasty and fresh. Tine, the waitress was friendly and attentive. The price of the meal was cheaper than a lot of places as they had an offer on. 2 main courses for £25 and even though I was alone, they only charged me £12.50.
