Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining in our gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

Absolutely fantastic place to eat!! The atmosphere and vibe of the place is honestly exquisite. The food was sublime and cooked to absolute perfection!! Our host; Chef was incredible, he was so attentive and accommodating to us all as a party of 12! :) 10/10!!

Food was delicious and well presented. Service needs a bit of refinement. Everyone was polite but could have been a little more attentive. No side plates for bread and had to ask for steak knives when our steaks came out as they were just put in front of us. I also had to remind one of the staff that I had ordered another drink as I waited for about 10 minutes for it

Great evening out - sampled the cocktails all had lovely food - staff all friendly and helpful. A lovely evening.

The service was good but took ages to take food order, we arrived at 7.45 to have drinks at the bar and the cocktails are too fancy so take ages to prepare, we then sat and ordered our food which took 40 minutes for starters to arrive, we then waited and waited and by 10pm our mains had still not arrived !!! So we got up and left !! Won’t be going back there again

Extremely slow service with no real acknowledgment of issues, it’s a shame as have been here numerous times through the years of different owners but I won’t be returning.

Our first trip since it reopened. Wasn’t disappointed. Food great. Cocktails fab - tasted as good as they looked. They’ve done really well to reopen and now have a new chef whose doing great food.

We had a group of 10 people who all had lovely food, delicious cocktails and mocktails and desserts that were so special. We were made to feel welcome and the service was really good. So happy to see the restaurant open again and with such a great ambience.
