Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining in our gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

Super friendly place. Our toddler had a great time. Roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese were top tier.

We’ve dined here before and had great experiences however unfortunately this time, the service was incredibly slow, too many different servers, drinking water given but no glasses asked for another bottle of wine which arrived at the end of our meal, waiting an hour between courses is not acceptable, I don’t want to eat my main course at 10pm (which was luke warm). Unfortunately we won’t be visiting again.

We ate at The Hengist on a Saturday night, and hadn’t been there since it came under new ownership. We were there for a special occasion and had arranged a babysitter especially so we could go, so it disappointing that the service was terrible. We sat down around 7:30pm and it took around 30 minutes just for bread to be brought to the table which came with the starters. The water glass was really dirty and the water had bits floating around in it, so we didn’t drink the water. We ordered a beer and a cocktail each which were nice but we weren’t offered any more drinks. After waiting until after 9:00pm for our main courses we decided to ask for the bill right away. We couldn’t fault the food but it took so long to come that we didn’t have time to hang around for a dessert. The staff were all very nice but clearly the restaurant needs more staff or less tables as it was very hectic in there. We felt disappointed as don’t get the chance to eat out very often and with the service charge included paid around £100 for two starters, two mains and two drinks but felt like it hadn’t been worth it. We heard others complaining about the service too as some people who had been there before us were still waiting for their food after ours arrived.

We came here to celebrate the our legal marriage with our witnesses and the staff, Mya in particular along with the chefs, couldn't have done enough for us. The food was outstanding, the cocktails were unique and tasty. We stayed at long their singer started and she was excellent. Really set the tone for the evening and created an amazing atmosphere. We didn't want to leave! We will definitely be back

We enjoyed brunch at The Hengist to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. She was very impressed with the venue and was delighted by the surprise birthday candle firework.

Absolutely fantastic place to eat!! The atmosphere and vibe of the place is honestly exquisite. The food was sublime and cooked to absolute perfection!! Our host; Chef was incredible, he was so attentive and accommodating to us all as a party of 12! :) 10/10!!

Food was delicious and well presented. Service needs a bit of refinement. Everyone was polite but could have been a little more attentive. No side plates for bread and had to ask for steak knives when our steaks came out as they were just put in front of us. I also had to remind one of the staff that I had ordered another drink as I waited for about 10 minutes for it
