Situated in the historic village of Aylesford, The Hengist is a modern restaurant and bar, a short walk from the river's edge.

The 16th Century building stands with original features, offering a perfect balance of elegance, heritage and modernity all surrounded by manicured gardens.

The Hengist offers a range of dining options including a casual dining option on the ground floor and two more formal dining rooms upstairs along with outside terrace dining inour gardens.

We offer seasonal 'a la carte and 'set' menus along with a 'Sunday lunch' menu. All of our dishes are freshly made to order with locally sourced ingredients.

The Hengist has been tastefully and stunningly decorated with a real wow factor. Staff give a warm welcome and are friendly and attentive. The cocktails are out of this world with some ingenious presentation and taste amazing. Kieron is a brilliant mixologist and takes great pride in his creations. We visited on a Thursday evening and there was a lovely atmosphere and plenty of customers so I am glad we booked. We enjoyed some great cocktails and then had some delicious food. We opted for the mushroom risotto and the chicken supreme and both were amazing. There is a lovely garden and outdoor space which we plan to visit very soon with friends. Everything about this place is 10/10 and highly recommended. Thank you for a fabulous evening.

Lovely Sunday roasts but would have liked a bigger choice on starters and desserts.

I regularly have afternoon tea here, but thought we try the Sunday lunch. Huge mistake, it was cold tasteless and the local Toby does a better lunch. Food sent back, advised it was a new chef in the kitchen. Really disappointed.

Service was a tad to slow. We both had Roast beef Sunday lunch. It looked good we had to wait for a long time before it arrived and the beef was tough and cut to thick I couldn't even chew it. I told staff that I wasn't prepared to pay for mine and they took off bill. Seems they were more interested in selling there cocktails. Overall quite disappointed.

Lovely visit to The Hengist. Drinks are very creative and reasonably priced, food is really well cooked - bonus points for a decent quantity of Peppercorn Sauce with the steak compared to usual restaurants. There unfortunately was a delay in food coming up - but the staff were very good at apologising / keeping us updated. Overall good - need more staff I think for the food to be brought up quicker.

Had a great evening. Friendly attentive service. Great welcoming atmosphere. Food was tasty and good value. Cocktails were a great experience. Definitely will be returning

My second visit here & loved it. Coming back again in a few days. Enjoyed the food & the amazing cocktails. Just a fantastic place to catch up with family or friends. Really lovely friendly attentive staff. & beautiful decor.

lovely welcome, drinks were great but the food wasn’t warm we all had a couple of drinks and a couple of starters and Sunday roast but starters and main weren’t hot just warm…

Went early evening with my son and enjoyed every minute! I had seen the venue on social media and was so glad I went. The food prices are reasonable and cocktails are fabulous. The restaurant is quirky and the staff are really welcoming and attentive but not obtrusive. You can really relax in huge comfy chairs and enjoy the experience - highly recommend!

Slow service, vegetables under cooked, potatoes not home made, meat undercooked Then added our deposit after their tip to increase their tip. Overall really disappointing family meal
